So i took my EX-L in for its first oil and filter change yesterday at 6500 miles (20% oil life),and when i asked for full synthetic i was informed that Honda now recommends full synthetic for all their cars. They told me Honda made a deal with Mobil ,who supplies the oil,to lower the price and the price with Honda filter is now 39.00.Not bad for a full synthetic change with filter.

I'm curious as to why you didn't wait until your oil life was lower

Isn't the first oil supposed to be left as long as possible?

No particular reason ,I thought 6500 was adequate

Everyone has a different opinion. I've heard just the opposite, that new cars can get metal flakes from machining in the oil and it's good to change after 2k miles...

True, but with today's engine tolerances, you could do the first oil change at 50% and wouldn't make the slightest difference anyway. They do recommend waiting, and I will on mine, but it's not make or break.

Tell you the truth, I think the first oil special additives is all bullshit. When they replaced my engine, at least according to the repair invoice, they just put regular oil. No indication of it being "SUPREME BREAK IN OIL".

Went to Honda for oil change after picking up car all was well until i was about 10 miles away and low oil light was flashing . Drove the car back to Honda and when i got there the dipstick had no oil on it. The seal on filter was folded over probly from being turned to tight. Head Mechanic says engine should be ok i say with no oil in engine for 10 miles who the hell knows!

I think what you say is highly likely. The special break in oil may indeed be bs.

I had one dealer oil change and they never put on a crush washer on the oil drain bolt. So I will just do the oil changes myself
