Went ahead and installed the Voltex 2V. Was a simple process and took maybe 30 minutes.

Evasive posted a nice install video here:

Here is some step by step to supplement that:

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6E71CAE4-9DEB-4480-828D-279F509EFF8C
Used a small flat head screwdriver to pry the (2) plastic handles on the interior hatch plastics. Before this install, I never knew they were there, heh.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 3F45B358-61A7-4D13-9C53-F2B66C67F612
These popped off easily.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 550856EA-8C29-4AF3-AD35-9E1C30F8E5CF
Under each exposed hand hold, there are (2) 10mm bolts to remove.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 14D958B1-3B53-4106-BD76-3226ED1C7BFB
There are also (2) plastic push clips to remove.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R BD5E224D-AF6C-42A2-8090-7C687EF1984B
There are (2) rubber bump stoppers to remove. Used a plastic interior trim tool. Each stopper had (3) plastic pins but were damaged when it came off. Not sure how to avoid doing so. The replacements are $30 each :(

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 52EA35A6-37B2-42DA-A684-80A8BC7FD977
With the fasteners removed, used the pry tool to separate the entire plastic shroud. I couldn’t get the sections to separate like the video showed, so pulled the whole thing.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R ABA67606-E4EE-47D3-8037-A8AE1C8CB37E
The plastic shroud is held in by these green plastic clips. Broke (3). Fortunately they were $1 each at the Honda parts store.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 7A34B60E-96DE-43C8-97BB-1021C148D5F4
Plastic hatch shroud removed.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 9573C8FA-8308-4502-A211-C7980E3C73A4
Hatch shroud out of the way, removed (2) nuts and bolts securing each end of the OEM wing, then lifted it off.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R DCF3F130-CA75-445C-9F49-4923FC99BA52
There was a little bit of funk where the OEM wing sat. Followed PrisonerOfDoom’s suggestion of Menzerna Super Finish 3500 and a microfiber sponge to polish it away.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 037CADD0-D061-4142-83A5-99BA69390647
Like this. Worked like a champ :)

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R B9654ACA-7F22-4845-8858-0145B0032295

Assembled the end caps to the Voltex. Was careful to set on microfiber towels to avoid scratches.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 5BD31423-830B-4DA9-8D26-A523027AC483

Installed the new stands, attached the wing and adjusted the deflection settings, then reinstalled everything in reverse order ;)

Voltex 2V installed. Pardon the dirty pics will update with new photos once the car is washed and still need to apply the end cap stickers. As far as BAW’s go... it really is not huge at all and seems on the tamer side of things. Wish it were just a little wider, and thinking darker tail lights would help, heh :)

This wing looks better than stock without the two white supports. Someone’s selling a set of darker HRS tail lights in classifieds. Will black/CF mirror caps and hood scoop be in your future?

Thanks Alan. I’m still getting used to the look. Funny thing is, I bet if Voltex came stock, and the OEM were the aftermarket option... A lot of peeps would be dropping $$$ for that, I still like the OEM wing, heh.

Hmmm hadn’t considered the mirror caps but will look into it.. Thank you for the suggestion ;)

The car will become a little darker and hopefully more aggressive looking soon.

Will the following items to install in the near future:

J’s Racing Grill (Manta Ray style, heh)
J’s Racing hood CF/FRP **ETA 2-3 months
Morimoto headlights

Haven’t been a big fan of having an unmatched hood and undecided whether to paint the CF hood or leave as-is... Was pretty set on painting but the official J’s Racing car looks good. Tempted to try it like that first, then paint later if don’t like it. This is pretty much what the car might look like, minus the stickers and lowered stance.

It sure does. Wasn’t considering the CF hood look then saw this, heh.

Considered a larger GT style wing.. was tempted to go with the one on the HPD car. APR if not mistaken.. but ultimately chose the Voltex V2 as it’s a little different than the others and I’m 99% daily driving. Price is about the same.

Here’s to hoping the front end looks the same and the rear kinda close, lol.

This looks mean. Do you prefer this larger wing? This has GT-style support brackets and smaller end pieces?

Washed the car yesterday, so here are a few photos of the Voltex in better lighting. Have decided to hold off on applying the end cap stickers for now, though am tempted to ;)

Have seen some folks delete the rear wiper for a cleaner look. Though it’s rarely used, will keep it for now.

Now this looks different! I can't say I love it but I do like the originally to it, defiantly makes your car stand out from the crowd. Notice any difference with handling?

Heh it’s definitely an acquired taste and took some getting used to. Fortunately it’s growing on me, otherwise it’s would have been an expensive fail, heh.

This would especially be true considering the hidden costs associated with adding aftermarket body parts not readily apparent just looking at the online price tag, such as clear coating, powder coating and paint.

Noticed the car felt a little “floaty” with the wing set to its highest setting, so lowered it with the front edge pointing down more. Feels fine now, but will get a better idea tomorrow at the track, when the car can really be pushed. ;)

Removing all unnecessary loose items and doing a final inspection in preparation for my 2nd track day Friday 4/3/20.
Taking my oldest son to ride shotgun and be my reluctant navigator. Bought him a racing helmet but he’s still afraid we are gonna die, heh...

Guess I’ll never kick the “Asian driver” rap, even in my offspring’s eyes, WTH haha.

Will be tackling Big Willow again, this time with Speed District. If the Type R (and our endurance) holds up, we oughta get (8) runs in. That’s double what we did last go around with AROSC. We had our driver’s meeting online via Zoom last night and will be practicing social distancing and wearing out PPE in the pits. Unfortunately we found out there won’t be rental transponders available due to Covid19. Thought about running out and grabbing an AIM Solo 2, but want to research it more before committing.

Gonna start off in the beginner’s group, but am pretty certain will move up to intermediate by day’s end. Am confident a month of practice on the SoCal freeway transitions will translate into some improvement. Definitely feeling more confident this time around. Famous lasts right? Wish me luck!!

Will be flushing the brake fluid and double checking the Acuity shifter settings today. With any luck the Broadway 300mm rear view mirror will arrive in time today.

Inadvertently dive bombed another driver, making a last second, impulse turn thinking I had the entire road to myself. Got honked but was lucky they were paying attention, because it was ramming speed bad on my part :(

Way past due to investigate options to upgrade the rear view mirror... which I’ve always felt was tiny and the view extremely limited...

Decided to go old school and try a Broadway 300mm for $30. Package says since 1947! Heck yeah baby!!

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 724151F7-9FFC-4C61-9B5E-3FD3655C45CC

It’s an ingenious design. Clips onto the existing mirror via these spring loaded adjustable clips... Install is ez peezy and takes (5) seconds.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R C93FB862-DA56-4306-93C0-3924693CF1CC

So gooood. No more blind spot over my right shoulder. Can see clearly through the rear passenger window from the driver’s vantage point :) Chose flat over convex. There is also one with a blue tint, which they were out of stock.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0E7A220C-0417-4FA6-AD90-40D2C8ADAEAF
I see there are even wider ones up to 400mm available, heh.

Highly recommend this as a safety upgrade over the stock mirror. Gonna test it on the track tomorrow! ;)

Some of the awesome rides today at Big Willow! And they sound even better than they look. Might force me to consider a catless DP someday! Everyone is doing a pretty good job maintaining social distancing and “staying in their lane” so to speak :)
