Thank you @Rone811. Greatly appreciate the positivity :)

The irony is I’m not an overly huge fan of red, heh. Picked up the Sweidit interior parts from my buddy @boosted180sx when he sold his R… But it is looking nice.

No immediate plans for a cage, however that may change if get the disposable cash to track regularly.

Looking ahead, after this interior project is complete, still have a few items on the shelf to tackle that have been putting off:
  • JRZ RS Pro Coilovers & HKS error cancellers
  • RV6 Suspension bits
  • RV6 660 turbo
Still need to payoff these interior pieces and want to purchase the following:
  • New tires - mine are completely bald.
  • XDI 1350cc injectors and fuel filter - needed for the turbo
  • Re-Dyno
  • Motec C125 dash display

First I want to say that you're doing an amazing job!

Second, I'm surprised you didn't go full red carpet and new R red seats. Also, are you installing a cage?

Thank you jermey jade. Making a little progress each day. All that’s left is to reinstall the steering wheel seat belts and B pillars + figure out how to wire the wireless charger pad and lighted door sills… then will be done!

The one bummer is I scratched the head unit display resting it on the shifter while plugging it back in. Such a bonehead. Didn’t think to protect it with a soft cloth….A new display costs $665 discounted online :(

Red looks nice on it !

You should consider John's 1430cc injectors- they have a better spray pattern and make more power apples to apples. With motec you can easily run the 2000cc injectors too but the 1430s he sells have the best spray pattern for us.

Thank you @Los’fk8. I’m pretty lousy when it comes to interior upkeep. Pretty sure have vacuumed the car maybe (4) times since picking it up at the end of 2018.

But now the interior has been upgraded, I feel obligated to do better moving forward. Especially having taken time to clean it for this project. Feels nice sitting in a clean car.

Have read maintaining Alcantara involves simply vacuuming the dirt then wiping it down with a moist microfiber towel… and Sonax cleaner, a brush and clean microfiber towels to lift off stains.

Parts of the steering wheel has Alcantara, so I drive with race gloves to keep it clean, which is kind of silly…

That interior looks great!! I feel like it would be a PITA to clean though??

Just wanted to say that I appreciate all of the information you have put into this forum. The time/effort definitely shows and has helped me with every installation on my own car. Keep up the good work!

I'm looking forward to your take on the JRZ's once you install them. Most of the coilover's that I've seen available for the Type R seem like they're mainly suited for augmenting the cars appearance, and not geared for reliable track use.

Have had the JRZ-RS Pros for a couple years but have been reluctant to install. Car already scrapes at stock height… which would be extremely problematic getting in and out of our sloped driveway.

Driving around with an expensive and fragile J’s Racing front lip makea for scary time as well, lol.

Strongly considering pairing the coilovers with a Stanceparts air cup lift system.

Front only or front + rear.

An air tank and compressor in the hatch could be slightly annoying, however the ability to raise height at the flip of a switch would remove reservations for installing the coils.

I suspect this post will mainly be applicable to Motec owners. But might be helpful to others. After reconnecting the battery and turning the car on, was greeted by this super annoying message requesting a code for the anti-theft car play system. Of course I have no idea what the code possibly could be... So the head unit locked out. :banghead:

3EB1DA13-02C4-40F1-A2F3-6C5C4647F836.jpeg
Under normal circumstances, this is the message encountered after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery. It clears by simply holding the power button for (2) seconds as indicated on the screen.

D75708A1-B3C9-4A8E-A224-A9EE9E0BA731.jpeg
But the code request persisted. Asked my Honda tech nephew and he suggested performing a master reset.

This is performed by:
  • disconnecting the cables from the battery terminals negative first, positive last.
  • Covering the battery terminals with something non conductive like a piece of cloth, rubber or cardboard to prevent the wires from coming back in contact.
  • Connecting the positive and negative cables with a pair of alligator clips.
  • Leave like this for about (15) minutes to allow the system to completely discharge and power down.
  • Remove the clips and reconnect the battery positive first, negative last.
  • Master reset complete. Start the car.

Whelp, after doing so, was still greeted by the code request lockout ?

Discouraged, called the dealer and they said to bring it and they’d take a look. No charge if something simple, but if the issue were complicated by mods there may be a significant charge starting at $150 just to diagnose. Well considering where my OCD tendencies have taken me and also being out of warranty, I said F that ? Besides I don’t need service techs joyriding my car ?

Fortunately there is more than one way to skin a cat. ? Decided to try something different. Performed another master reset..

0FA00AE6-BB48-4354-946E-C0E7898FEF6A.jpeg

Swapped the electrical harnesses from the Motec to the good old trusty OEM ECU ?

63BC37F9-6AF4-45D9-939C-30CE9BDA856A.jpeg
Returned the battery to normal, crossed my fingers and fired it up. Bingo, Bango, Bongo!! ?

As Austin Powers might say: “YEAH BABY YEAH!!! Problem solved.

1A9C2979-4512-467F-9E31-6DA4257295F4.jpeg
Turned the car off and switched back to Motec. Turned the car back on and confirmed all was good. :headbang:

Pretty certain this anomaly is due to the Motec. Would be nice to get the code from the dealer so don’t have to go through this if the Issue crops up again... or maybe there’s a setting that can be turned off in the Motec logic. :dunno:
i know that this is actually exactly two years old but if you ever need a reset code:

Slowly but surely, the interior has gone back together. Finished the installation of an OEM wireless phone charger. Didn't really need it as I normally connect using the USB cable, but it was included with the interior package deal my buddy @boosted180sx hooked me up with.

Still need to figure out how to install the OEM Type R door sills and put the seat belt pillars back, then will finally be done... But it's coming along and the car is driveable again.

Hard to believe I'll be at (5) years of ownership later this year. Hadn't washed the car for around (5) months, so did so last week. Can't say enough good things about having PPF and a ceramic coat, if your car is a keeper long term. Paint still looks great.

Currently at 51k miles and trying a set of Kumho V730s @ an affordable $905 installed. Itching to get back out to the track one of these days with my track buddies. R Compound say the V730s are really good... Just need a couple warm up laps due to the stiffer sidewalls then they grip really well and last much longer than the Yokohama A052s, Bridgestone Potenza RE71RS or Nankang CR1.

I've read some threads and FB postings about how the FL5 is superior, but I am extremely satisfied with the FK8 and have no plans to move on. Still my favorite car and it drives exactly how I want a car to (Modded, of course).

Imagine driving an FL5 would be a similar experience as driving a stock FK8. Believe the FL5 would need some mods to really enjoy it. That said, hopefully the car has better cooling from the get-go. My reaction to the car is neutral. There are some things about it I like and some not so much. Definitely prefer the styling of the FK8, though it will be interesting to see the exterior mods that become available to make the FL5 more aggressive.

That said am glad to see Honda continuing to produce Type Rs powered by gasoline and a manual transmission. Always great to see awesome Japanese cars punching above their weight... however, dunno if that's the case with FL5's selling for $55-70k bone stock.

In hindsight, the FK8 seems a bargain for what we paid for them. $41.5k here, of course I've blown way past that with all the mods and nonsense I've pursued. But no regrets. Love this car and will do so forever, heh.

Looks phenomenal. The J’s front end is incredible. This is my forever car as well. Every time i drive it it puts a smile on my face. I was comsidering selling it at one point, buying/building an EK and then just investing the rest of the cash in real estate (my main source of income at this point) but i know i would just end up buying another one down the road. Now i just try to drive it like it was built to be driven. Hard and on track 👍👍

Received this OEM wireless phone charger with the interior package, despite not really needing one. Prefer a USB cable to connect to the car + it charges faster.
