Thanks fellas for the kind words. Here is where it’s currently at. Have been hard at it for the past (2) months with whatever free time I can muster... ever since my wife laid a guilt trip on me lighting a fire under my arse ?.

The OCD shifted and is currently fixated on this. Started out with (18) non working games but have cut that down to (11). Have (39) full size games total. With any luck, I’ll be done soon and can get back to car modding and track driving in the very near future.

It bothers me knowing everything isn’t 100%, so am on a mission to make it so...Also would like to add black light carpet and maybe a neon sign to put the finishing touches on the garcade. ?‍♂

If ever find yourselves in SoCal, please lmk if interested in stopping by to visit and play some games :)

Have started thinking about the FK8 and miss driving hard at the track...so it’s back on the radar... but at minimum, the rotors need to be sent to Girodisc for some conditioning and I need a new set of tires before getting back out there ?

The Arcade is simply amazing!!
This is so friggin cool. I had the chance to visit a bar called "Up Down" in Iowa last year, and essentially, it was just a gigantic arcade on two levels with alcohol and its probably one of my favorites. hahaha, Got to play everything from pinball to cruisin USA to Marvel vs. Capcom. ahhhh now I wanna go back.

I have a question about the Motec. Since you live in Cali, do you put back the stock ECU and get all monitors to set before you take it in for inspection?

Haven’t had to cross that bridge yet.. CA smog inspections aren’t due for new cars until after (7) years of ownership. I’ve got a 2018 so don’t think I’m due until 2025.

Hoping will be able to find someone to “pass” the car as is, but have the factory ECU sitting on a shelf ready to reinstall if needed. Will be watching with interest to see how things go for 2017 owners with Hondata and KTuner.

Oh wow, thought California was a yearly thing no matter what. New Jersey gives 5 years for new cars then need an emissions inspection every 2 years. I know you lose OBD with Motec so just wondering the best solution.

I'm sure I can find a private facility that deals with this kind of stuff.

Thanks.

Received this gift from a co-worker, out of the blue today…

Taking this as a sign I should get back to modding and maintaining the FK8 soon…

Am signed up for a (2) day HPDE class Sept 11-12 with AROSC @Willow Springs.

That gives me a little over a month and a half to get the car ready ;)

@fatherpain Thank you for creating this incredible journal and continuing to share with us. Your joy and passion comes through clearly and I am happy for you! I spent the last few days reading this thread, learned a bunch, will reference it in the future, and had some good laughs.

Thanks to @turbociv910 and you, I went with Ben for my Motec setup. Besides wheels & tires, I’m 100% stock prior to Motec. It’s awesome that you wanted BOV the “right” way and went Motec for it! I am starting with getting up to speed on tuning before a full build.

I am new to this community (intro thread) and aspire to contribute like many amazing members like you do.

And Awesome, welcome to the club! I have to do my obligatory parts plug (see my sig, I can get most items, especially items geared for making more power) Ill check your thread out and make an appearance.

Hey there ForeverCar. Thanks so much for the kind words, much appreciated sir and glad to hear you are enjoying this thread. Making me feel a little guilty for not adding any significant content for the past few months, while focused on my other hobby

Congrats on joining the Motec club. That's one hell of an impressive first mod right out the gate, haha. Ben Salasko is an amazing tuner and his customer service is off the charts. Very glad @turbociv910 pointed me in his direction and happy to see you've followed suit.

Really like the clean install of the FK8 AU kit over the Vit tuned kit. That said, there have been several bugs that needed ironing out and its been great to have Ben's support, making time to resolve each item as they arose.

One of the annoying unresolved issues I'd experienced, is an engine tick or idle fluctuation when the AC is running. Connected with Ben this morning and he uploaded the latest Motec firmware update (non BETA), tweaked the idle back to 800 rpm and that seems to have fixed the problem. Such a relief, heh.

I'm not entirely sure what is covered in this update, but it was just released.

One potentially serious issue I recently discovered was the tendency for the engine to stall, under hard deceleration while simultaneously downshifting . A situation that may occur while driving hard at the track. My engine stalled slowing from 60 down to 25mph to make a right turn at a freeway offramp.... And also slowing from 100 to 60mph on a freeway transition. Ben determined the problem to be related to traction control and Motec calculations looking at things like engine rpm vs speed. Apparently it doesn't look at shifter position and can think the car has entered a "stall" condition. Ben made adjustments and viewed the data-log this morning to confirm its now fixed. :D I do not know if the latest firmware addresses this. I suspect it may not, as they respond to user feedback and this one is new.

Highly recommend reaching out to Ben to see if your Motec ECU needs similar tweaking, as it is no fun (and somewhat dangerous) to lose power while rounding a corner at speed. Had to think fast and quickly dump start the clutch to get the engine going again.

I have a track driver education event scheduled Sept 11-12 so want to make sure all bugs are worked out before hard driving again… :drive:

Hello Tom, been trying to catch up on your journal. If you like the A052's, I would highly recommend you try out the Nakang CR1 tire. I heard they're as sticky but last much longer. I currently have them on my car and all I can say is wow. I feel super confident on track with these.

Hey there HomieGohan,

Thank you for the recommendation brother :) definitely will give the Nankang a hard look, next time I’m ready for a full set.

I have (2) leftover RE71R’s with minimal wear, so will be looking to pick up (2) new ones to save a little $$$ this time around. The RE71Rs are discontinued but some places still stock them, so I need to act fast.

Like the A052s, but it’s a bummer they wear so quickly.
