Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 59C6A2E0-8F15-416A-80BA-1FFE9F0D633C

With all clutter sorted and transferred to our storage room, pulled my forgotten and neglected “other” hobby outside for a thorough clean. Lots of dust and spiderwebs, but they shined up nicely with some long overdue TLC. ?

Each arcade cab has casters installed, so are easy to push and roll around. Smarter, not harder is one of my favorite mottos baby! ?

Then again... the OCD I often joke about probably is real and should be treated one of these days, heh.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 6BE5F770-6668-4A1A-B5D2-DD6E5C309AA0

Started repopulating the “garcade”. Though my sons were nowhere to be found when there was a boatload of work to do... it didn’t take long for them to mosey on in and “test” the games to see if they still fired up ?.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 0CCA517F-6F65-4336-BF6A-32E1D518E521

These all play fine...but found (17 of 38) do not, so will need attention, $$$ and help from some old friends to get running again. They were all operational at one time....but these old electronics fail under use and sometimes just by sitting there.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 5D1F4A40-B6B1-4F55-9A6E-BE1A5ED623F5
Collecting arcade games is something of a love/hate for me... it’s great when they work, a bummer when they don’t.

If there’s anything worse than having one expensive hobby (FK8)... then it’s having two.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 3F0B45A3-71BA-4C16-B45A-CBE474CCAB1C

Started collecting and restoring these from 2005 through about 2013... and the OCD was seriously in full effect.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R D767CED8-5211-47AA-8EB4-1F6800027B26

Thought my kids would love them, right off the bat, like I did when I was young in the 80’s and 90’s... but they preferred games their friends play, like Minecraft, Fortnite, etc ?‍♂

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 076DDE22-3133-4351-B32A-0E538A928915

But they are taking interest, now that the games are set up and garage is clean again for the first time in about 7-8 years...especially my younger 13 year old.... this makes me happy. ?

However, neither have taken to working on cars with dad, lol ?

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R AC4894CB-47DC-423F-97D4-84D6D19DC4BA
After going hard at it for (7) days, the garage is back where it should have been all this time. Such a relief to be done. Will never let it reach that craptastic state again.

With any luck, will be getting back in the game, so to speak, heh.

What does this mean for the FK8 build? Though, future time and resources will be split between both hobbies, my tools and parts are now organized. This should make it easier to stay motivated and install some of these mods that have been piling up. ?

It also means any fellow Type R peeps cruising out to visit, can play some games in addition to talking cars.:drive:

Whats the Neo Geo machine? My friend from school had one of the first grey import Neo Geo consoles back in the day. As kids £400 for a console and £200 for a game was insane. Played Alpa Mission II for hours and hours ?

That’s awesome Arch. Yes, that was the Neo Geo AES home system. I have one that’s packed away.

The great thing back then was the AES console let gamers play the same exact content that was in the arcades (MVS).

Here is my Neo Geo MVS big red 4-slot. Home use only, never seen commercial operation. Perfect condition. Allows toggle selection of (4) carts at a time. Neo games typically hit the arcades in this MVS format first, then made their way to home systems a few months later.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 76AEC091-CCA2-45D9-A6A0-33B0498D2DDC

Received this modified baffled OEM oil pan from unit2fabrication. Lead time was about (5) weeks.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 4D177709-7629-4B77-A10F-D75C9A373480

This mod is designed to prevent oil starvation and a blown engine under high G force conditions at the track. I’ve seen mention on FB of a person experiencing this type of failure. Figure it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R FCDB84E4-204D-481B-8129-99805E24EF18

In addition to the baffle, the pan has (3) of these hinged doors that swing open in only one direction. Believe the purpose is to ensure there is always an adequate amount of oil in each chamber in case oil were to suddenly slosh to one side.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R F69AB532-11FF-42F4-B652-D46021192403

Requested a 1/8” NPT port added next to the drain to be used for either an oil temperature or pressure sensor. Also have a port on the HKS sandwich plate that hasn’t been used yet.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R EEE7310D-3080-4530-9390-04DACDF7CFA8
Craftsmanship of the welds is excellent. Very impressed with Unit2fab. Planning to install at the next oil change.

Also received this XDI HPFP from @turbociv910 ’s webstore several weeks back.

These are also available through @kefi.

Please pm either of these gentlemen if interested in purchasing one :drive:

Looking forward to installing this and reconnecting with Salasko Racing to dial the Motec Tune back to full. Am currently de-tuned abit, as was experiencing fuel cuts under WOT. May also look into adding a flex-fuel option, so a return trip to the dyno would be required.

For now, am still in spring cleaning mode and getting my “other” hobby back up and running.... so this will be added to the growing list of things to do before summer hits. May have to take another week’s vacation to catch up with FK8 mods and get back to the track ;)

Haven't done anything to the car lately, but rest assured, I’ll be getting back to modding, maintaining, and driving the FK8 soon enough...

Presently, the OCD is still focused on getting the video game collection presentable and running again, now that the garage is clean.

Picked up one of these old school letter boards to keep high scores and list games in the collection. The top (4) columns are dedicated games. The (5) lower columns are PCBs that can be inserted and played on the candy cabs. I ran out of letters so its incomplete until more arrive.

I plan on selling off some PCBs, so when board space becomes available, thinking of keeping track of personal best lap times on it as well.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 976034AF-AC09-49CF-ACF4-37ABF3494C3A

Also nerding out and displaying some old comics from when I used to collect. My first job was working at a comic book store when I was 15 years old. Good times.

Games are going to be set to use quarters, so have an old change machine that's kept full of free quarters for people to grab and use.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 3F1473AC-97B2-47F2-922C-BBD4A76F2F7A

Had this 36,000 BTU AC mini split installed to keep the room cool. 30 something games can warm things in a hurry.

Honda Civic 10th gen Fatherpain’s 2018 Type R 2E21B0AF-572C-467C-A973-98D66E4A7CEC

Or like this.

Anyways... tying both hobbies together, are there any SoCal Type R owners interested in cruising to Fullerton this Saturday 5/29/21 from 6pm to 11pm for a Type R meet and greet, talk cars, play some games and pitch in for Pizza?

Only caveat is attendees must be Covid vaccinated, symptom free.

Weather permitting we could eat on the deck to properly social distance. Hand sanitizer will be readily available. ;)

Neighborhood parking is safe.

If anyone is up for it, please lmk here or via PM. Limiting the number of guests to (6) members so not to risk a super spreader event. :)

Picked up a set of Varis rear fender extensions, with the goal of adding accents towards the rear for visual balance. Unfortunately, they are only available in FRP, so had them CF PPF wrapped.

D7316B8A-6FE7-4B59-A8C0-B9AE964C5EDB.jpeg

Masked the fender area with painter’s tape to guard against glue drips and also test fit the extensions.

1543B4C2-CE33-4892-9DED-4F94AB8B8093.jpeg

Taped off the top side edge to protect against glue pushby mark the placement of the extension.

0AF7725F-B6D3-4F32-AD55-36676B7868D7.jpeg

Roughed the surface with sandpaper to break the ceramic coating for the glue to adhere better.

AFAB5BEB-E29F-47A3-AAED-39ABEBAC6296.jpeg

Until it looked like this.

7E3BA175-F844-4899-8123-608553CAD8FD.jpeg
Wiped clean with a microfiber towel and rubbing alcohol.

6D920D43-FBC9-4986-ACEA-44B64CCD185F.jpeg

The Varis extension has a recessed groove on the backside where double stick tape or glue can be applied. Opted to go with glue as I occasionally track and don’t want an extension flying off.

A010ABB1-276F-4175-A444-0F22E57C9B88.jpeg
Wiped the extension groove with alcohol also.

9D3E4820-0E26-4398-9661-6D1715A06B25.jpeg

Then applied Gorilla glue in a zig zag manner.

31B3F269-E6F7-46D3-B811-0CACA9276212.jpeg

This seemed to be the perfect amount . Didn’t want too much where it pressed out, or not enough for a proper bond. The blue tape was there so it was ready to secure once pressed on.

F8886EDB-4FF8-49D8-8589-7F5F5308A512.jpeg

Pressed on the fender vents and my youngest son hovering around, doing his best to distract me.

DF65C6C7-4F97-47BE-B64E-F93B3FBB5E08.jpeg

Opened the door to make sure the holding tape had enough to grab onto.

6E2C907C-0C7A-4A81-A15D-CFB4624CC43F.jpeg

Applied extra tape to hold the fender in place while the glue set. Didn’t want any unwanted sags.

099670DE-BCA5-4D1A-9515-1230A702F3F7.jpeg
Repeated for the other side. Our lawn sprinklers came on during the installation of the last fender extension, so scrambled and pulled the car forward, heh.

A99E890E-1B81-4C36-82C3-6FF58AD5F1E9.jpeg

Let it set overnight, then removed the tape in the morning. Voila! Close up of the passenger side.

Close up of the driver side.

Another angle.

69A5A882-F8F7-46EA-9847-40BDE0B7DD4F.jpeg

I lined the fender up and let the extensions overhang about 1/16-1/8” all along the side and bottom edges so white could not be seen behind them.

Varis rear fender extensions successfully installed. Relatively fun and easy, but was a little stressful, heh.

Wasn’t an overly big fan of the Varis extensions at first, but now that it’s on, seems like something that could have been on the car from the get go. Digging how it turned out....Very impressed with Varis’ fitment and quality.?
I was thinking about doin this. Was VHB double sided tape not recommended on this install?

Hello Dream3r,

I installed using gorilla glue applied to the recessed channel on the backside... Didn’t use double sided tape as was afraid a fender could let go, so went the permanent route. ;)

Wanted to switch the rear civic lettering to black after seeing hpbyhermann mention them and found they were surprisingly expensive ($70) for (5) letters. No instructions were included, so I pm’d Hermann for install advice and hit up YouTube ;)

6BDBEE98-8F20-4960-A532-ADC15F455F54.jpeg

To do this cosmetic mod, needed some non-stick painters tape, a microfiber towel, cleaning solution and..... dental floss??? What the heck?

FF42EBE1-9159-4264-880B-9DAA05D20720.jpeg

The letters have a film covering the adhesive backing.

3BBF2777-EE45-494A-95CB-B5E8AAB86C99.jpeg

Marked the outline of the original lettering with painters tape, to show where the replacement letters are supposed to go.

311A9E8F-072A-4542-A81B-6E3B518AB842.jpeg

Slid the dental floss behind the lettering and worked it back and forth to cut through the adhesive. Wow the floss worked like a champ!

1C38AC0E-D747-4337-9454-5ADF0E87401B.jpeg

The floss cut through like butter. Repeated for each letter.

614DF7DC-C5DA-437D-BE72-C0F44FAD1848.jpeg

Letters fell off but left a gummy residue...

62D2DA78-9A0D-48C8-B88D-DF11C2EF0896.jpeg
That needed to be removed. Alcohol is mentioned as an effective agent. Didn’t have any so channeled my inner Captain Caveman and peeled it off using my thumb.

C326C1C0-661C-463D-BDDA-584442659C2D.jpeg

Some of the residue was stubborn, so hit it with a microfiber cloth and some cleaner.

87200172-8893-4689-83E8-6383C32DB3BC.jpeg

Surface prepped, applied fresh painters tape as some had been pushed aside during cleaning. Ready for the new letters!

8BD9E2E6-6E18-4237-856E-45F758EBBC41.jpeg

Did a dry run test fit and traced the outer edges of the template with a pencil. Would have been less stressful had the blue foam been clear or see through.

F0D991A2-E525-4AD3-B423-0C9257BFB22B.jpeg

With the target marked, peeled off the adhesive backing.

793AC8FF-6FC8-4AFB-9D04-979437D1F86E.jpeg

Pressed on the letters then removed the foam template. Was afraid some of the lettering might miss and land on the painters tape.

8A63A924-118F-4D8C-9591-A39657B94100.jpeg

Heyyyyy!!!! Better lucky than good I always say ;)

4521FAC0-30DC-4169-87C1-BA810BE759EF.jpeg

Gave each letter a good press to make sure they are on.

32625CC5-6EBB-4641-AF9D-51A2538D7178.jpeg

Removed the painters tape and cleaned the surface.

73CAA0D0-405C-4D6C-A029-6D2431D1FA63.jpeg

All done! This is how the lettering probably should have come from the factory. While this may look a little better, it’s not much different than the OEM as the chrome letters seem to pick up and reflect the surrounding black.
where did you get the letters from? id like to copy that idea if thats cool

This is so friggin cool. I had the chance to visit a bar called "Up Down" in Iowa last year, and essentially, it was just a gigantic arcade on two levels with alcohol and its probably one of my favorites. hahaha, Got to play everything from pinball to cruisin USA to Marvel vs. Capcom. ahhhh now I wanna go back.
