My left rear strut is leaking bad, need to get it replaced, Honda obviously want a lot, $800 for a single replacement and labor.
I wanted to go with used, but not sure how long this will last, even though eBay has them for sale, $60 and up

How is everyone feeling about KYB?
KYB Excel/GR-2 strut rear for 2016 Honda Civic LX $49
KYB Excel/GR-2 strut front for 2016 Honda Civic LX $62

Any other recommendations?

KYB are good quality.

Ideally you should replace shocks in pairs and match the brands, but if you're only going to do a single one I would just buy a used OEM strut, as it'll be a better match to your opposite side (assuming that's OEM).

KYB Excel G is slightly stiffer (~10%) than oem strut. If you are on oem spring, it will work perfectly, but if for lowering spring (eg pro-kit) that designed to work with oem strut, stick with oem will be better.

Look into Bilstein B4 or B6.

thanks, I feel like KYB are still cheaper than even OEM used, I'll do both

The bump stops on the spoon dampers are already cut as I was informed by GoTuning. They are meant for combined with their spoon lowering springs.

Got an entire set off FB market place from a guy who put coil overs on, $200 for every

Turns out, however, the front struts are different for each trim level. The diameter wouldn't fit in my knuckle

The rear shocks are the same.

The different is the spring rate, and it being a Mcpherson strut, it's an entirely different assembly -- minus the internals.
