Alonso had a meltdown LOL. I'd like to feel sorry for him but he basically mouthed his way out of Ferrari.

“I have a contract and I have seven more races this year,” Palmer 26, said. “There have been suggestions for 35 races that I might not be in the next one, or in the next few... I’ve got seven races to do. I’ll be in Malaysia and I’ll be racing to Abu Dhabi.”

Toro Rosso has confirmed that Carlos Sainz Jr. will step aside for Sean Gelael during first practice for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Gelael, 20, from Indonesia, is preparing for the first of four planned FP1 runs with the team, after test outings in Bahrain and Hungary.

He is also set for practice runs in Malaysia, the United States and Mexico.

Reigning Formula 1 Nico Rosberg has joined Robert Kubica's management team to help progress Kubica's return to racing in Formula 1 in 2018.

Kubica told Autosport: "It's fantastic to be working on this with Nico. We've known each other since we were kids and he is, and will be, a great asset in my F1 comeback."

Rosberg suggested earlier this year that he would like to remain involved in racing, "maybe as a counsellor or in a management capacity", and has chosen to throw his support behind Kubica, whom he has known since they were teenaged rivals in international karting.

Rosberg: "Robert and Lewis are the fastest I ever raced against. Therefore, I am thrilled to join forces with Robert on his journey back to racing in Formula 1."

Dude, with Sainz moving to Renault, do you still see a spot for Kubica?

Kubica still in frame for a return

Until the competitive action really got going, much of the focus in Singapore was off track, on the shape of team line-ups for next year.

Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Renault and Force India now have both drivers confirmed, after Mercedes re-signed Valtteri Bottas, Renault took Carlos Sainz on loan and Force India secured Sergio Perez. And it seems only a matter of time before Fernando Alonso puts pen to paper on a new contract with what will be McLaren-Renault for next season.

The intriguing team is Williams, where the name of Robert Kubica keeps cropping up as potential team-mate for Lance Stroll.

Williams are keeping their cards close to their chest, but it looks as if the Pole, trying to make a comeback after seven years out following his horrendous rally accident in 2011, could soon test for the team.

Kubica looked set to return for Renault - but all is not lost

It would be a sensible move from Williams. Their options are limited. They could yet retain Felipe Massa, but some in the team are asking whether that is a good idea. They have reserve driver Paul Di Resta as a back-up. Jolyon Palmer, who scored his career-best result on Sunday, is available after Renault dropped him, but they are not interested in him.

Renault worked very hard to bring Kubica back, giving him three tests before deciding they could not be certain he would be ready by the time they needed to commit to a driver for 2018.

Williams, though, have more time - and their demands are perhaps not as great as those of a works team building towards a title challenge in a couple of year's time.

Kubica's final test for Renault in a 2017 car in Hungary cooled their interest. But did he not impress as much as hoped there because he will never be ready as a result of the limitations of his right arm, which has only partial movement? Or because he has not had the chance after so long out to build up the strength he needs to drive a modern F1 car?

The only way to find out is to test him - and conveniently Williams have a test programme with a 2014 hybrid car up and running, which they use to give Stroll experience.

It would be no surprise at all if Kubica was to test that car in the next few weeks.

If he does, and it doesn't work out, Williams will likely stick with Massa. But if Kubica is even somewhere close to the driver he was before, he would be a very interesting alternative - and the exposure Williams would get from bringing him back would be immense.

Kubica emerges as a front-runner for Williams seat- http://en.f1i.com/news/280496-kubica-emerges-front-runner-williams-seat.html

Robert Kubica set for Williams test as team considers pole for 2018 seat

Honda Civic 10th gen F1 Talk Anyone? jm1701se178

Williams will organise a private test for Robert Kubica in the coming weeks in order to analyse whether the Polish driver should be awarded a 2018 seat alongside Lance Stroll.

Kubica looked set to make a comeback with Renault after completing two private runs in a 2012-spec car followed by a day of in-season testing in Hungary, where he and the team admitted a return was viable.

Renault have however chosen to loan Carlos Sainz from Toro Rosso and with Nico HĂĽlkenberg contracted through 2018, Kubica's comeback chance looked to be over.

Williams could now offer the 32-year-old a lifeline as it considers its options for next season, which also include retaining Felipe Massa, whilst reserve driver Paul di Resta is also up for consideration given his strong performance in Hungary when he stood in for an unwell Massa.

Kubica though is thought to be favourite for the seat, but Williams are keen to analyse his performance and speed before committing and are set to organise a private test in a 2014 FW36 in the coming weeks.

Massa, though keen to stay for another season, would likely move to Formula E after recently admitting the series was on his radar.
