Took my Civic in to my regular mechanic for an annual inspection. Only issue was front tires needed to be replaced. I had them go ahead and replace all 4 tires. They recommended BF Goodrich Advantage Control tires. On the invoice and tire sidewall, I noticed these tires are rated XL (Extra Load): 235/40 R18 95W EXTRA LOAD. Why would a 2019 Civic Hatchback require an XL tire? Just curious. I don't believe the original Continental tires had such a rating, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Oh, I wasn't worried about it. I'm just curious why they specifically are required or recommended for my specific vehicle.

My thought too. I can't wrap my head around why it would be necessary. Wouldn't the (unnecessary) load capacity be the same with the same pressure anyway?

I guess it's just they recommended the tire for other reasons, and it just happens to be "XL" though that feature makes no difference in my case? Anyway, I emailed the service manager earlier today and asked. Will post their reply when I get one.
