Note that even if there are high-mileage 2016-19 Civics out there, I still have to hear about any engine failures, except for highly modified cars. I live in Alliston, where a great many Civics (including all coupes and Si's) and CRVs are built, and where a lot of these cars are driven by residents, and employees of Honda and their suppliers, so if the problem was so acute, we would most certainly at hear about it!

My wife worked in R&D for motor oils - they would run engines without oil in them (drain all the oil out) - they would run for thousands of miles before having an issue.

So you have to remember the effect of this issue might be hard to notice for most drivers. Suppose the engine without dilution issues is good for 250,000 miles. This issue reduces lifetime by 20%, so the engine only goes for 200,000 miles on average. Who's gonna notice that?

If you're doing track days in your car, I'd be concerned, but the average driver probably has nothing to worry about.

The loss of trade-in value would be a very real concern though.
