We all know catless downpipes are no longer available on the new market as a result of EPA crackdowns.

I just read that 6 months ago EPA threatened a $180,000 fine to a small speed shop in Colorado for selling 37 hondata s300s in a two year span. PFI speed had a disclaimer "for race cars only" and didn't install or tune the vehicles but couldn't prove they were installed on dedicated race cars. EPA demanded sales info for all 37 hondatas. The shakedown stated pay $18,000 within 30 days or else pay $180,000

If you want to get political, you can email your representatives in support of the RPM act. Link has a prefilled response, enter your zip code and it emails your local representatives. I wouldn't put any faith in any elected officials but I guess it's the only thing we can really do about it.

I fear any tuning device will be illegal soon, and gas vehicle sales in California end in 2035. Wonder if it will be illegal to tune your EV.

I read about something interesting regarding these epa lawsuits. In another forum a user was having an issue with their aftermarket downpipe causing codes. Turned out that his downpipe was cracked along a poor weld next to the cat and, upon removal, it broke in two. He contacted the manufacturer to file a warranty claim and their response was that due to the lawsuits they were no longer taking responsibility for the products sold previously.

This seems illegal as well as unethical. Though, if I had an aftermarket downpipe I'd probably be contacting the manufacturer, to see if they were going to pull shenanigans like this or not, just to be sure.

Sounds shady. Do you know who the manufacturer was or the platform it was for?

I understand the EPAs standpoint with cat or EGR deletes on road vehicles. Not that I necessarily agree with it but I understand. What's maddening though is they're suing tuning software manufacturers and sellers because one of the many features in the software allowed you to bypass CEL when installing illegal emissions bypass.

That's like saying weed is illegal. Now we need to ban lighters because one of the many uses for a lighter could be to ignite your illegal weed.

I agree it's shady, he is in the process of contacting his lawyer. It was an Afe Takeda catted downpipe for a Veloster N.
