I don't really get the point of engine covers. You can't see under the hood unless the hood is open. And, if the hood is open, you probably actually want to see what's there as opposed to a cover.

To each his own I guess.
Haha, I was thinking the EXACT same thing! Only time I open the hood is to actually do something. I dont want to have to do another something just to do the original something I wanted to do in the first place.

Spoon just showed you the real deal by going old school, and I'm sure that they will have the repainted engine cover listed in their catalog at a premium soon.

This car seems to be insanely hot under the hood, all those warnings about the hood prop leads me to believe that heat build up is excessive, I'd rather not put anything that can block heat from coming off the engine any more than the engine bay already does. But as stated, to each their own. On a positive note, the coil packs are only $40.00 each so thats only $160.00 if the excessive heat fries them.
I don't know how hot the inside of the engine compartment gets in the case of the Civics with the 2.0 NA engine but for the 1.5 Turbo one the heat under there is intense, even in fairly easy traffic conditions. It's the hottest i've yet to see and seems to be fairly well closed all around, with no obvious gaps the heat can escape, air panels and rubber seals all around.
Heat that is being produced in large amounts by the turbo and the catalytic converter, both sitting in front of the engine, close by.
I had the same idea of buying a beautiful, red engine cover but when i saw how hot it gets during summer after a 20 miles easy drive in 90 degrees F (32 C) i gave up the idea.

These covers are a totally bad idea. Normal air flow will be impeded. Ignition coils will operate at much higher temperatures than intended. One would ( or should ) want to see as much as possible under the hood or bonnet. If a cover were needed, don't you suppose Honda would have provided one ?!

I really like the look of the engine cover. However, seems like most are from China. Like some have mentioned, I'm afraid of this happening. I would consider the engine bay cover only.

How much room do the ignition coils have above them when the hood is closed? Not sure they have much airflow as is - will the cover make it any worse?

I decided not to get one by the way.

I think this one actually looks a lot better than those FK8 replica that has shinny cf which makes it looks cheap.
The question is still whether or not it increases the heat for the engine.

This picture was taken from taobao, I wonder if the insulation materials do more harm than good.

I am picking up a laser thermometer, will take some data and share. My guess is if there isn't any significant increase, then the insulation is to protect the cover itself.

I liked this cover more than the type r ones too, just to be a bit different :)

I installed the side engine covers and really like how they look. Got me thinking the rest of the engine is pretty ugly. Was looking at covers on eBay. There is a plain red one that says Honda and then one that looks like it is from the Type R.

Does anyone have a cover on their car? Since various engines from Honda have covers (crv, type r, civic 2.0 engine) I would guess there is no problem installing one. Would prefer something all black and subtle but it looks like they don’t make one like that.

Thanks
Ray.

Where did you get the covers from for the top fenders? Any link? And did you have to modify anything?

Thanks..

Its funny how Lexus and other more luxurious brands started covering up their engine bays with plastic a while back and people complained about it. I would prefer the open-ness. Engine bays have become more cramped though..
