Dealers are saying that Mercedes-Benz is killing off the C-, E-, S-class coupes, the CLS, a GT, and two other models.

I’m sure within 10 years ( give or take) there will be no two Door vehicles The mustang will only be a suv no more Camaro And challenger (or will be a 4door like the charger) I’ll be surprised if the corvette would Still be around The Miata 86 and brz will be gone that two door bronco will last maybe two years because their going to shove the 4 door to every dealership I don’t mind a sedan if it’s got style and a low roof line but unfortunately in my opinion the future of the Automobile will be a box shaped SUV

I'm truly astonished that the MX-5 Miata is still around after 30 years. A totally impractical, two-seater with a platform and powertrain that isn't shared with any other model and sales numbers that are only in the hundreds each month. At $26,000, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a loss leader for Mazda. But, oh, how fun it is to drive!

I don't want more SUVs on the road. We have enough as it is and they can't manage to do more than 40 in a 50, at least around here... I hope we get a new trend soon.

No more manual Accord?? That is a bummer to hear they are not offering any car in Manual anymore. I am old enough to remember when you used to get a few bucks knocked off the MSRP if you went with the Standard transmission (as they were called back then as they were standard) over the automatics. This was back in the 90's so not to long ago. Now you pay a premium if you want a Manual transmission I guess because they are not mass produced anymore and for sure are no longer standard. At least hey will still have the Si and the CTR in the lineup with the 6 Speed stick even if only the sedan.

Talk to anyone in almost any other country and they will tell you manual's are far more prevalent than auto. We've become lazy drivers in the US.

I a lot would argue that they want all wheel drive
Subaru has been AWD for years and the other argument is cargo room for years car manufacturers have designed the rear seats fold down on coupes sedans hatchbacks stationwagons and minivans and the beloved SUV there for when the rear seat is folded down nobody can sit in the rear seat on all vehicles
( except minivans most have 3 rows ) a lot of these SUVs have roof racks but most are too high to put any thing on top so that why they have a large towing capacity so they could tow a trailer for more crap
and so every body could feel like a truck driver driving a semi Hell we might as well bring back CB radios

back In 53 Kaiser made this practical sedan The traveler
back then people still wanted a practical car but they still where making coupes ( two door) cars all car companies was a appealing to everyone than not to just one group of people today

I wanted leather interior when they were searching for a EX-L coupe there was two rallye red and energy green
if any other color I would have to order it the red was out because it was tan interior which I don’t like the green had the gray leather and I was think long and hard about owning a lime green car so I settled for the modern steel with cloth interior now thinking about it I should have gotten the green there just as many grey cars as white cars in the state of Florida
You could always get it wrapped.?

Totally. I have family in the UK and from what I understand more drive stick there than automatic so I do not get why in America the trend has turned so sharply in favor of automatics. Even muscle cars now come as automatic standard or with the flappy paddle Double Clutch garbage. I I had say a Camaro or a Mustang and went to a track day with an automatics I would be down right embarrassed really if I took any car without a fully manual clutch transmission I would be embarrassed.

I'm older than 95% of you and have driven more manual cars than most of you (for nearly 30 years in a row) so keep that in mind.

Let's talk about this "only manuals are for real drivers" idea. And that you can't be a car enthusiast if your car has an automatic. Especially a CVT. No doubt automatics are completely less engaging but they've actually become quite good and often are faster than a comparable manual setup depending on skill. But still, I agree, there's nothing like the control and fun of rowing your own gears.

There's no doubt that many people drive automatics because they simply don't know how to drive stick. And some are probably just too lazy to drive a manual. But the point I'd like to address is the whole " true car enthusiasts only drive manuals" attitude.

Let me give you a few examples of the fact that there are enthusiasts who drive automatics. They're the exception, not the rule, but they exist.

For starters, me. I've been modding cars since I got my first car, a used '65 Barracuda. And most of my cars were manuals over the years. I love driving and love taking the long and windy way home. But back in 2010, my wife had been seriously ill for many years and could no longer work. We sold both of our cars to make ends meet and traded them in on one car. That car had an automatic because my wife couldn't drive a stick.

Sadly, my wife died in 2015 and life as I knew it ended. I've been struggling since, but that's a story for a different forum. In 2017 I bought my Civic. I wanted to get a manual but after months of looking there were no manuals to be found in Cosmic Blue, so I settled for the CVT model. With the tune I have there's actually some fun to be had, but... it's no manual, that's for sure!

I also have run a car forum for almost 20 years and consider myself a big time enthusiast, even though I currently drive an automatic.

Another example of a CVT driving car enthusiast is saz468. I'm sure he'd prefer a manual but injury has meant he can't. Then there's folks who love driving but have long commutes in stop and go driving. Many have an automatic for that and a fun weekend manual car.

The point of this being, yes there are car enthusiasts who drive automatics. Sometimes it's just circumstances.

Talk to anyone in almost any other country and they will tell you manual's are far more prevalent than auto. We've become lazy drivers in the US.
There's no arguing people in other countries (mostly concentrated in Europe) drive manuals in vast numbers compared to the US. It wasn't always that way. There was a time every kid in America learned to drive with a clutch. But Americans do love convenience and we did invent things like fast food and automatics have become the transmission of choice here. Unfortunately, It sucks for folks who love manuals just like it sucks that the auto industry is fazing out most coupes.

This thread has veered off in a different direction so I am joining with an opinion. I believe that we all need to be less judgmental about things, especially each other. Gtman has obviously been through hardship and made some decisions out of that struggle. I can tell you that I have also been through stuff, as a cancer survivor. The point being, none of us really knows the story behind the person on the other side of that keyboard. But rest assured, every single one of them has a story to share. We don't need to judge others on their transmission choice, their mods list, or anything else. Leave that to God.

It is because of the EPA. Now manufacturers are saying that the CVT development has resulted in better fuel economy and performance than a conventional manual transmission. I still miss driving a stick shift though especially doing the heel and toe downshifting.

100% agree and I've learned that with age. In my younger days, I was one of those that thought anyone driving an automatic wasn't really driving a car, they were steering it. Or every time I saw a Hyundai (when they first came out), that those owners thought they were driving a poor man's Honda (in their dreams).

Then you see things and experience things and you realize there are reasons or circumstances that dictate people's decisions. Two good things to stay away from are assuming and stereotyping.

Now back to regular end of coupe discussions.
