Hey guys, just bought my Si coupe 2 week’s ago and’ve been running shell 92 E10 so far. I know that modern engines are designed to run on this gas but just wanted to get some input from other people. I have a station that dispenses unbranded 92 ethanol free but it's just a little out of the way from me. Do you guys think E10 will have negative impact on our little L15B7 motors in the long run? Is the E0 gas worth the trip? What do you guys think?

A few things to consider about ethanol:

-E10 only has a shelf life of 3 months
-Ethanol gas can absorb 50 times more water than conventional gas.
-3.8 teaspoons of water per gallon of E10 can cause phase separation meaning a layer of 2 liquids is visible.

This platform loves ethanol. I’d run an E85 blend if it was readily available here.

I’m thinking more in terms of longevity. From that perspective what would you run?

What about your octane levels? I certainly won't be running E10 regular 87 pump octane gas... 91 pump octane (95 RON) as recommended, which is ethanol-free at local top-tier gasoline stations.

Ethanol is in fact very bad. You want to do the smart thing and avoid it at all costs.

I only run 91, 93 when I stop at a pump that has it. Just stating that the car picks up a lot of power with E20/30 blend.

I might try 100% gasoline if it were available in my area, but everything is "May contain up to 10% ethanol" around here. I'm satisfied with the power and economy, so I've never been very inclined to pay almost twice as much per gallon for 100% gasoline at ONE local station or a couple of "race gas" retailers.

I know that ethanol itself has a higher octane rating than reg gas, so power is the name of the game. Although for me, longegivty is my primary concern. As mentioned previously, modern engines are designed to run E10, so am I wasting my time and money for that matter hunting down 100% gas?

That must be regional, because ALL brands and grades use ethanol here in Texas - including Shell's premium.

Either one is fine, but if you're buying unbranded non ethanol gas you're not buying a Top Tier rated fuel with the premium additives designed to modern engines.
