Hey guys,

This has been happening with my seat for some time and I just wanna see if anyone else has had this issue. My seat makes a noise in right lower/middle back area as if there is a bad spring inside. It happens as the weight shifts to that side of the backrest while moving around.

Do I have a case for the dealer to fix/replace it or would they claim this is normal wear & tear?

Here's a video with the sound:

Thanks.

On occasion my seat makes the same noise as well. Im still not sure if its the seat itself, or whether the noise is coming from where you click in the seatbelt. Try moving around/ flexing the seatbelt holster. The noise comes and goes for me, but on the days it squeaks its extremely annoying.

I am having this same issue and it is making me go crazy with the annoying sound it is making!

Did you contact the dealer? Any luck solving this?

Thanks!

I am not sure if that is the same noise I am getting. mine is more like a metalic squeak. I think it is coming from the latch mechanism on the seatbelt. It is driving me crazy!

I think it is the rod on the seat belt buckle that the seat belt wraps around. That piece always gets hot during the summer and I burn my hands when I grab it to put the seat belt on. It seems to be very lose. When I unbuckle my seat belt the noise goes away. The car is under warranty so I will bring it in and see if I can have it replaced.

I think I am having this same issue now - or one similar. At first I thought is was suspension related as it happened on the first cold day this year. But it turned out that as I shifted my weight around in the seat (and when I pushed in the clutch etc.) the drivers seat was creaking all around.

Very annoying

I sprayed some CR 26 on the seatbelt bolt a year ago. Haven’t heard the noise since. It has been hot all summer and today is the first day of cold. We will see what happens.

Turns out the front two bolts for my driver's seat were just really loose!

This starting happening in my hatch last week. @Thawk - what bolts did you tighten specifically? I'll have a look at mine and see what's up.

The two front ones that hold the drivers seat in place - directly under your thighs on either side - it's a large torx bolt.

Here's mine with much more audible noise: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8vwwSKqjSKEf1BKg9
The car being 6 months old with a 5 year bumper to bumper and they told me it was "a characteristic of the car so we're not going to address it."
After telling him that it 1. does it every time I shift and 2. the passenger seat doesn't do it and should be considered for either replacement or repair, he said his tech is going to contact some headquarters on if they have a repair procedure on hand or if they need to replace the whole seat.

I didn't like how they passed off a very squeaky seat they themselves witnessed as just something I have to deal with. I saw no pride in quality of brand in that reaction.

ISSUE STATUS: 2/26 Dropping my car off so the dealer can have a local auto upholster check it out and repair.

What we know (or have been told by American Honda Motors):
  • Seat/Ambient temperature affects the severity of the noise. Seat heaters, your body, weather all contribute to the severity of the noise. (My findings)
  • It's present in all 3 2018 and 1 2019 Civic Si my dealership tested and American Honda customer service says it's not a characteristic of the vehicle and should not be happening.
  • No current recall or service bulletin.
----------------------------------------------------------------
First date of complaint 1/2 when I got my oil changed. The issue had been present for 3 of the 7 months of ownership. I have gone through extensive communications with AHM Customer Service. The dealership at first twice stated the issue was characteristic and not covered under warranty. After contacting American Honda Motors customer support, the representative had differing opinions after being provided my video (listed above).
-------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE SUMMARY 2/22: If your car does this, demand service!
After the local dealership failed to contact me for service on two occasions, I requested all communication through email. All 3 2018 Civic Si exhibited the same issue as well as a brand new 2019 Si fresh off the truck. They won't replace the seat because it's likely the problem will still exist.
Next week the dealership is having a local automobile upholster specialist check it out to fix it.
