Seems like people are able to install new knobs okay, it's just the boot that needs to be attached to the knob that might be an issue.

I received my new shift knob. I was able to remove the OEM and place the new one on without having to remove the boot. However, without removing the boot, I cannot get the nut under the boot to blend with the new knob. Honda Civic 10th gen DIY: replacing shift knob 20170514_163553

This does not keep the boot up, I will have to see if there is a way to maybe Dremel out the boot ring just enough to get the nut through it, or remove the whole thing.

Hmm, okay let us know if you get the boot issue fixed somehow. I have a new knob on the way but I anticipate this same issue.

I just ordered a new knob today and I only plan on changing the knob. Once installed I will check back and share my findings.
Its a matter of just pulling down the boot and install a knew knob, you wont like that chrome collar rattling around though

Well I ended up removing the trim and boot to get it to look the way I wanted. I tapped the stop nut into the boot ring and then spun the whole assembly around to tighten the nut to where it needed to be and adjusted accordingly. I really like how it turned out and the boot holds solid.

Nice! Did you have to use any other non-stock materials to get the knob and boot to hold in place as shown? Or is it just the knob that you replaced?

I only used the knob and the nut that came with it.

I followed the lead of some else's idea and just used wrapped tape around the shaft of the shifter to hold the boot collar in place. Knob is just a cheapo ebay one but I like the weight and shape.

How's your boot holding up? Did you just wrap something like an electrical tape around the shaft, then shove the collar up above it?

Thanks for the help fellas ! Finally got around to replace my shift knob .
I used a billet shift knob adapter I bought off eBay for like $5 and held the shift boot to the adapter with a stain less steel zip tie worked best.
New Skunk2 6 speed shift knob was on ebay for $35 blems.
Looks prefect and feels even better !

Do you have a link for the shift knob adapter?
I wanna get one for my car.

Should fit just fine with the 10x1.5 adapter. Which number Dragon Ball knob are you going to get (says you can have any of the numbers 1-7)? Personally I'd take either 6 or 7, as you can see more of the stars in those, from the looks of the pics.

Just FYI, you do not gain access to anything by removing the center console bits. Just pry up the plastic trim on either side of the shifter, and you can access everything necessary.

A great tool to have for panel removal like this is one of those brown square plastic 'Pampered Chef' scraper things. Go steal one from your wife, and throw it in your toolbox. She won't even notice. Thank me later.

If you didn't buy this yet I wouldn't. It's super cool but it's really really light. So its not gonna shift as nice as stock it's gonna be a little harder. And I'm always afraid mine will crack... I have one on my miata
