So I went ahead and replaced my shift knob and boot collar and documented some of it.

What you need:
Plastic pry tool (putty knife works)
Phillips screwdriver

I recommend you read the Manual on how to install the wireless charging kit to remove the center console.
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/instructions/civic/2016/4dr/wirelesscharger.pdf

Anyways. To remove the stock knob, pinch at the sides of the boot under the collar and pull down.

Unscrew the knob.

Pull up the two side center console arm rest. They're held on by four clips.

Next use your plastic pry tool to loosen the two side center console pieces. (I didn't bother to remove them all the way)

The boot section is held on by two screws and 4 tabs. Remove the two screws.

Pull up on the for tabs and the center section should come up. Carefully unclip the wires at the bottom.

Invert the shift boot and cut the zip tie holding on the stock retainer.

Add your new shift boot retainer, and zip tie in place. And put the console back together.

Thanks for posting this. Do the shift knobs on 10th Gens use 10mm x 1.5mm threads?

Cool, thanks! I just put in an order for a Skunk2 shift knob. This guide will come in handy.

Thanks for the help fellas ! Finally got around to replace my shift knob .
I used a billet shift knob adapter I bought off eBay for like $5 and held the shift boot to the adapter with a stain less steel zip tie worked best.
New Skunk2 6 speed shift knob was on ebay for $35 blems.
Looks prefect and feels even better !

I followed the lead of some else's idea and just used wrapped tape around the shaft of the shifter to hold the boot collar in place. Knob is just a cheapo ebay one but I like the weight and shape.

So if you just want to replace the knob and not the boot, do you still have to take the trim pieces off? Or is it just a matter of unscrewing the stock knob and screwing on the new one?

I am wondering the same thing.
I just ordered a new knob today and I only plan on changing the knob. Once installed I will check back and share my findings.
