One thing that annoyed me about my Civic is the center console doesn't have a light in it, which makes it extremely difficult to see inside the console when it's dark out. I came up with a remedy for this, and here's how I did it...
Step 1 - I cut my LED strip down to just one section of 3 LEDs and soldered on longer wires. (ignore the tape, I ended up removing it in the next step)
Step 2 - Remove the back panel of the console
Step 3 - Drill two holes. The first, in the back of the console, and the second is drilled into the piece the armrest is hinged on. Looking back, I really should have drilled on the driver's side, since that's where I routed my wires.
Step 4 - Stick the LED strip on the back of the console and route the wires through the two holes that you drilled. I zip-tied mine in place and then put electrical tape on the connections to ensure they don't touch and create a short. Then, route the wires along the side panel of the console, but make sure they stay on top of the carpet.
Step 5 - Tuck the wires underneath the side of the console from the back up to the end of the side panel in the driver's footwell. I used a plastic pry bar to help pull the panel away as I tucked the wires in.
Step 6 - I ran the wires along the footwell, above the pedals, and zip-tied them in place.
Step 7 - I used an "add a fuse" connector purchased from my local auto parts store and placed in the slot 5 on the fuse block. I took the ground wire and wrapped it onto the clutch pedal adjuster bolt. In the future, Im going to add footwell lights, which I will wire in with the console light.
Here's what it will look like when you're done.
