A cargo net is a cheap mod that can come in handy. This honestly should be already installed by the factory. This will help you a lot if you buy groceries. Here are the things needed for this install:

- Cargo net and hooks
- Prying tool or flat head screw driver
- Drill with drill bits
- Paint to prevent rusting
- Rivet tool (you can use my guide below for a diy rivet tool)

Open the trunk and remove the center trunk liner that runs over the latch hook. Grab the side trunk liner and pull back. We will need to locate the holes where the anchors will connect. Each side has two mounting points. The top mounting point on either side is located at the top near the trunk arm. The area protrudes out. The bottom mounting point is below it at the bottom. Use a drill with a 9mm drill bit to dril out the hole. A 3/8 drill bit will work just fine

Use some paint to coat the holes to prevent rusting. I happened to have some orange paint laying around.

Wait for the paint to dry and put the rivet into the hole.

Use a rivet tool to pull the rivet through the hole.

If you don't have a rivet tool, you can make your own DIY rivet tool with the following items:

- 9 mm bolt
- washer
- nut
- piece of metal (used a metal bracket)
- 9 mm ratchet
- 9 mm wrench

Assemble the items onto the bolt in this order:

Bolt > nut > washer > piece of metal > rivet

Use a long bolt. The bolt I used was a little short and I had to work a little bit harder.

Use your socket wrench or regular wrench to hold the bolt head.

Grab the piece of metal so it wont spin. Use a wrench and turn the nut in the middle clock wise. This is easier with an extra set of hands. As you rotate the nut, you will feel it tighter. Tighten the nut enough for the rivet to clamp onto the hole. Repeat this step on all anchor spots. Put the trunk liner back and install the middle liner back as well.

Grab the anchor and insert the rod. Rotate until it tightens together.

Screw in the anchors to the four anchor locations.

Hook the ends of the net to the anchors.

It would have been so much easier if Honda just had locations ready for the anchors. I think this mod is definitely worth the cost.

Bought myself a cargo net and found out that installing this required a lot of work. Went to the dealer to ask for a quote on installation and was quoted $140. Disgusted, I left the dealership and just installed it myself however, I did not go the same route you did. The cargo net protrudes into the trunk space too much. I wanted a cargo net that stayed closer to the trunk opening so what I did was pry off the clips and then just put the cargo net strings underneath the clips while slipping the clips back in. Just don't put in something too heavy or the cargo net will come off. So far have had my cargo net installed this way for about 3 months and everything works out well. I mainly use it for putting items like microfiber towels and detail spray bottles in the cargo net. Really useful.

I had to install some cargo hooks into the trunk area (drill holes, install hook hardware) to keep baskets from sliding around on the cargo mat I have. Shame on Honda for not addressing this when marketing the car as a family sedan. My 2016 Honda FIT has tie down hooks from the factory.

Just take one of the rivets to lowes or Home Depot and try a screw till it works. That's what I did

I figured it out..6mm bolt/nut...used some hardware from an old verticle blind for the plate...Wheww, didn't think it was going to work. Thanks

I got my hatch cargo net yesterday. It's nothing like on the sedan and coupe. Thumbnails on the parts sites showed the same style as yours, but the install instructions showed it laying flat. Install was easy. Fold it in half and clip the four corners to the existing attachment points and done!

The cargo net that I've got is the Japanese version, which has the ingenious turn nut without having to use the rivet nut.
Make the hole larger with 8mm bit, then insert the turn nut. The turn nut will rotate as you turn in the bolt.

Easy job.

I put a bag underneath to catch the metal debris. Everything looks good until I tried to close the trunk. Now the plastic cover on the trunk hinge is rubbing with the cargo net cords.

Is anyone having the same issue?

Maybe it is those plastic covers that creates the issue
I think the cord is going to rub the hinge with or without the cover. I only notice it because there is a rubbing plastic noise when closing the trunk lid, but the cord itself won't make much sound with direct contact on the metal hinge.

That's sounds awesome but you should mention where one could get it.

Trace it with the part number on the box, and rakuten has it over here.
