It does seem to be a peculiar North American/Canada thing that dealerships don't allow test drives.... Alien to me here in the UK to be honest. I was actually a bit put out that a salesman insisted on coming with me when I test drove a Type-R here as that's the first time in about 10 years that I'd had an accompanied test drive. Usually at BMW they just make me sign something, give me the keys and ask that I'm back before they close... That above MSRP thing in the States is also all kinds of hoooky <shakes head>
I test drove the Type-R three times before pulling the trigger - twice from the dealer I bought mine from and in-between I also had a go in another dealers' demonstrator to make sure they both felt the same, sounded the same, etc. and then got 'best and final prices' from both before the last test. I think my first test drive was well over an hour long.
Hey, you have to be sure right? ??
