Got a call from the dealership today, they want to buy back my car that's 27 months into a 48 month lease. The car only has 25kms (Canada) on it, I barely drove due to the pandemic. They offered $23.5k CAD which means I'd pocket around $3k and just give the car as is which seems like a pretty good deal to me. Whats your guy's thought? I don't really need a car right now which is why I'm interested in the offer, otherwise I'd probably say no.

2019 White SI / White / 24,xxx KMs (roughly 15,000 miles)

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Compare their numbers against Vroom and Carmax.

If you are thinking of trading it in, then now is the time while the market is insanely high for used cars. Our dealership sold a 2019 SI with 19k Milea for 27k USD , which is over a grand more than new.
If you wait, you might end up losing money vs making money.

oldest trick in the book to get you to re up.
This.

We don't have Carvana, Carmax, etc. here.

OP, it's not a "free" 3K. If you find yourself at any point needing a car in the next 6-12 months, you're gonna pay more for a new car too. This is a zero-sum game in my book. Keep your Si.

Were you planning on getting rid of your car?

I wouldn't give up my Si for just $3k.

I'd only do the trade if you are actually interested in a new car. I wouldn't do it just for the sake of "a good deal". Had a salesman the other day trying to convince me to trade in my car for one of theirs (nissan dealer) because used cars are going for so much, that I could somehow end up with positive equity. It got a bit heated.

If it's a lease, he can't compare against numbers from Vroom and Carmax. When you lease a car, you don't actually own it. A lease is essentially a long-term rental where you're responsible for the maintenance. At the end of the lease, you either buy the vehicle or return it to the dealer.
