Was wondering when do i need to change my cvt transmission fluid. Im currently at 16k mile and bought it at 14k miles. And also, when do i need to do oil changes. Ive read articles saying every 5,000 miles bc of the way the engine on the ivtecs are.

It's in the owners manual. Like all maintenance, the computer tells you when. If you live in mountains or beat the shit outta your car, change it at 25k miles

When I had my 2016 LX, I think the maintenance minder for CVT service came on around 37k.

Wasn’t familiar with the maintenance minder at the time and I got around to doing it around 50k miles.

I say watch the maintenance minder in the car. It will tell you when to get it done.

I'm tuned and just changed it at 20,000 miles. The CVT is running smoother after the new fluid. Untuned, and driven normally, 30,000 seems reasonable.

As someone already said, the bordcomputer will tell you when you should to maintenance things like oil and CVT fluid.

I had CVT fluid changed when the cars was 20 month old and had 19,000 miles on it.

I bought my 2017 Civic Touring with 21K miles in Jan 2020. I had the CVT fluid drained and filled with 31K miles. I am glad I did so because it really smoothed out the CVT especially at parking lot speeds and driving in stop and go traffic. I hear on this forum that 30K miles is a good interval for changing CVT fluid as people have seen failure from not maintaining the transmission. I paid a local shop and they charged me $140.

i have 16,000 miles on mine,

i am planning on changing my CVT fluid next summer, regardless of MM

i will probably be around 18,000 at that time,

new fluid is cheap compared to a new CVT

Changing the fluid at 18k isn't going to extend the life of your trans. That's similar to changing the oil at 3k even though you are using synthetic.

It's also a matter of time right?

And maybe also a matter of where you live. If there are a lot of cold days in winter or if you live in the mountains or if there is a lot of heat.

European owner manual tells you to change the CVT fluid every two years or 25,000 miles, whatever comes first.

It mainly depends on what "cost of ownership" and environmental claims Honda advertised in different markets.

I changed my CVT fluid at 30k miles. I change oil around 40-50%. I was changing the oil at 30%, but i have oil dilution.
