I ordered 4 Qts of AISIN fluid (ATF HCV - data sheet attached) from Rockauto to do a drain and fill.
It stinks...even the new stuff stinks.
The old stuff is dark, but did not smell burned.
Pulled the plug and drained 3.6L
The magnetic plug had a light coating of particles.
Very light compared to my 2006 Accord v6 auto.
I will likely reduce to 30k miles for next drain and fill.

i did a drain and fill once on my 2016 LX sedan when it had 55,000 miles on it. I don't remember it being that dark. That may be the different when you drive in LA traffic all the time. My LX had a lot of highway miles.

Why are you mixing Aisin in with the factory fill Honda Genuine? Does it even matter?

I do remember it not being a pleasant smell. The new Honda Genuine fluid was not red either, it was clear/yellowish

I think it is recommended to change it 30-35k miles. I did mine at 35k miles.

I did my CVT fluid drain and fill at 30k miles and the fluid that came out was pretty clear. Most of my miles have been either highway or easy local driving with not much stop and go. My maintenance minder didn't call for it yet but I decided to do it every 30k miles regardless. Did your maintenance minder call for a fluid change earlier than 45k miles?

Also, I am not sure if this is the correct CVT fluid. The data sheet states it is good for Civics from 1996-2017. Did Civics even have a cvt in 1996? I remember reading that Civics started using a cvt in 2014. Why would it be the proper fluid for a 2017 and not a 2018 when they are the same transmission? Our cvt fluid is supposed to be HCF-2. You might want to look into this.
