This is one of the first prototypes i made and is not the final version. Final version is made out of birch plywood and has round corners to blend in with trunk contours which will sell for $250 for just the box alone. This box sounds really good adding a bigger boom to the weak subwoofer the stock sedan currently has.

Would a 12" fit in the same spot, or is 10 the max with the trunk hinge in that space?

If you have center exhaust the max that would fit is 10 inch but if your car has side exhaust a 12 inch would fit good. 12inch would probably have to be a shallow type as the depth on the box is about 5inches.

What makes the difference? I'm not familiar with the differences between the trunks on the different exhausts.

So sedans with the side exhaust allow the spare tire well to be deeper because there is no center exhaust piping down the middle so the trunk is deeper and it allows for a taller box for it to clear the trunk hinge and allowing for a 12in sub.
Sedans with center exhaust having the piping going down the center of the car forced honda to make the spare tire well shallower and offered that car with an air compressor kit lol.
Consumers complained so honda added foam blocks to clear the height of a spare tire and in turn raised the floor board. There for the smaller version box i made is not as high but enough for a 10 inch and still allow the trunk hinge to clear.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the explanation. Can you tell me the total height clearance from bottom to the hinge on the center exhaust models?

I'm thinking about making my own box as well.

Maybe 12 1/2 to be safe. Question..what does yours measure out to?
I'll have to measure mine, I couldn't measure it last night when I was looking as my dog was hanging out in the backseat while I took measurements haha. I think I'll probably end up just ignoring that area and make a standard box.

Yea you really have to want your trunk space to put effort into building one or pay a good amount for it. Its faster and quicker doing it fiberglass but its messy and i value my health and surroundings more than a box. Wood is harder to build because of the contours but not as messy.
