I have the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 8" Dual 2-Ohm Punch Series Shallow Mount Car Subwoofer in my car and I think I am going to change to the Kicker 8 Inch Dual 600 Watt CompRT 2 Ohm Shallow Slim Car Subwoofer | 43CWRT82.

reason is my amp can spit out 500 @ 2 ohms.... it maxes the rockford out, and makes it distort.

Do we think that making this switch will be a good choice for better sound quality?

It will depend on how your amp is rated. Is the 500W a peak or RMS value? The kicker subwoofer is rated for 300W RMS and 600W peak.

Since your amp isn’t stable to 1 ohm, I go w/the dvc 4 ohm sub, coils wired in parallel for a 2ohm load. That gives you a decent amount of headroom on the amp w/respect to the speaker’s 300w power handling and no danger of clipping.

A little of this is foreign to me, thank you for the response. do you think this sub,
Kicker 8 Inch Dual 600 Watt CompRT 2 Ohm Shallow Slim Car Subwoofer | 43CWRT82.

would handle the amp a little better?

I can barely turn the gain up on the amp currently and it distorts.

Unfortunately, advertising is about big numbers. So, manufacturers publish in giant text the peak power handling value, which is 600w. But the continuous power handling is 300w. It’s better to have more power than not enough. So, I’d still go w/the dual 4 ohm wired in parallel over the dual 2 ohm wired in series. In the end, it’s the ‘same’ speaker, with a different impedence. I would always prefer to turn the amp down (more headroom) than turn the amp up (more chance of clipping). Clipping is really what kills speakers….within reason.

Made the switch today. First note, the stock screw holes do not match up. Wired up and it is for sure an improvement from the Rockford.
I can turn up the gain and make my fiancé mad, and turn it down for my mom.

How difficult was the installation? Do you have a link to instructions?

I do not have instructions, just searched this forum, maybe this thread even. Hands down, the sub I picked with the amp is a better alternative to the Rockford!
Sub swap only or amp too? I can’t believe how quiet the stock sub is.
