So I went in to my local dealership today and talked with the Sales Manager. He's a good guy. I've bought 3 cars from them in the past 6 years, so we're familiar with each other. So I ask him the usual questions. When I asked him if he has any showing to be coming to his lot, he said no. He said that the initial release will be small (around 1000 or so). So dealer quantity will be limited. They're the largest Honda dealer in SoCal and said he's expecting maybe 2-3 for the year.

I then asked about MSRP and putting a deposit down. They don't do pre-deposits. And he came right out and said they'd be marking these up $10k from MSRP.

Sigh...

I spoke with my dealership and salesperson again this morning. They just left their weekly sales meeting and there was no discussion on markup over MSRP by upper management yet everyone there is excited for the release. The price is set at MSRP and there was no further information from Honda yet on when the inventory would be delivered or what colors will be set to my particular dealership.

Looks like anyone in the states that want to mark up will have to travel to find them at MSRP if that is the case locally for you.

I still suspect this will be the case for the majority of dealers around the country. People will buy them at those markups too.

As mentioned in other threads, this will probably be the case at least for the first year and maybe half the second year. At which point prices will get closer to MSRP, maybe small markup ($1-3k).

No one should expect to be buying a CTR for MSRP, even those that put down "deposits in writing". Most likely what will happen in those cases is the dealer will refund the deposit and sell to someone willing to pay markup.

Some may get lucky and snag one for MSRP but those cases are going to be exceptionally rare IMO.

We'll see. The Ford RS was highly marked up but I personally know friends who bought the Golf R for this gen's release and it wasn't marked up. I've never paid mark up for anniversary edition japanese models in Michigan for various of cars.

I guess it's the fact that Honda are more regularly purchased in your states and they expect them to be able to sell at a much higher price. Seeing a Honda here is like seeing a goose lay an egg.

Man, did you count out each individual dollhair, or did you just count one dolls hair and calculate how many dolls were required to reach the necessary quantity of hair?

Leave it to the midwest people to pop jokes on the dealer markup thread... If our dealers markup they know they will be firebombed lol

You have it wrong no one should be paying over MSRP for a Civic, unless you live in California.

Guarantee you every dealer in South Florida will mark it up and sell every single one as well. People have way too much money for their own good here.

Should it happen is another story, but will it happen? Most definitely.
