Could someone explain the process of purchasing out of state as far as taxes, registration, etc. for California?
You can get temp tags from from the state you purchased the car from. Tell them you want to pay taxes in the state you live in. Got my 1st Type-R in NC and my second one in TX.

I live in DC and did this method with both dealerships.

So which "fees" do I pay at the dealer? Doc fees and just the selling price of the car? Tax and licensing will be paid when I register it back to my home state, correct?

A dealership said if my tax at my home state (CA) is higher than theirs, I would pay theirs, and just simply show CA DMV what I've paid so far, and I would just pay the difference?

The dealership is correct, look at this link, page 5

I would push back with the dealer. I’ve had dealers tell me this but I’ve never paid sales tax for out of state purchases for cars and motorcycles. Tax is due where the vehicle is registered. States want the tax revenue. The California docs say that the out of state tax paid MAY be credited. I don’t know the extend of the risk associated with obtaining the credit but why not just avoid it and pay the full tax in your home state.

Congrats on the CTR! I was able to find one around msrp out of state as well. Do you mind letting me know which transport company you used? Was it open trailer or enclosed? I’m in SoCal. Thanks!
Congratulations!

I used Montway enclosed! Paid $1779. Took them about 1.5 weeks to find a driver and 5 days to get to my place.

Hope you find a good transport company!

I paid sale tax when I purchase the car from Missouri for documents purposes. After everything is signed, dealership cut me a check for the sale tax. When registering at CA DMV, DMV staff just took the check (from the dealer, sale tax). End up getting a back some $, due to over paying the sale tax. That's just my experiences from buying out of state in June 2021.

Not at MSRP, but the best I could do was $41k for my brand new 2021 CW.

It seemed like a good deal. 3 other CWs in the SE: $42,503, $45k, $54k.

...If you look at the tracker, there are only 6 in transit now so I think that’s a wrap for this generation.
what is "the tracker"? would you point me to it? I only find a "search inventory" on the Honda website after building a CTR... and that's no fun as you have to put in random zip codes to search.

with the Swindon, UK plant producing the last Civic on July 29th, i'm surprised any CTRs are still in transit. where have they been for 60-days? does it take that long to make the journey from Swindon to Baltimore?

My November build didn't arrive at the dealer until mid-January, so sounds about right.

They forgot the carbon fiber wing  how could they! You should inform them of this missed fleece opportunity asap!

Some of that shit is just comical. $1800 for a roof wrap? I got my GTI's done with 3M 1080 for like 100 bucks. $500 for door handle film? Legit, like 30 bucks with a pre cut PPF kit. $1250 for doc fees? Haha  even $200 for wheel locks......my dealer charged me $70 installed lol

Agreed. Hard to believe how things have changed since I bought my CTR at MSRP in September 2020!
