Is anyone else considering trading in their Type R for the new Integra?

Before you freak out, hear me out.

1) I don't track my car ever
2) I don't even drive aggressively
3) It'll still have a manual transmission which I greatly enjoy
4) It will have a nicer interior
5) The styling is more reserved - I like the Type R styling just fine
6) More economical - I don't care about the difference but it is a perk
7) Will probably get a bunch of cash back if it came quickly - my 2021 has only 4k miles now
8) I value greatly the upgraded infotainment, digital dash, HUD, and radio

As an aside, if they released a type S version with the Type R drivetrain, I'd gladly buy that instead. Not holding my breath

I don't track my R and I don't drive aggressively either. With that being said to answer your question... nope

I hear you. I have fond memories my 1987 Integra and my 1999 Integra GS-R. Took the former to Germany with me when I was working over there and even as modest as it was in terms of performance, it handled the Autobahn like a champ. The GS-R was, before the CTR, hands-down the most fun car I ever drove, and had the best shifter until the CTR. So I've looked at the progress of the new Integra with some interest.

At this point, I would not switch, as the CTR does everything I like and the QOL upgrades from the Acura couldn't justify the loss of performance for my preferences. An Integra S with a similar (would not have to be identical, as long as it was somewhere between GTI and CTR/Golf R) power and capability, for no more than $40k, that would get my attention.

But if I had to replace the CTR due to some misfortune, even the plain Integra would be on my short list along with maybe the GR Corolla if it turns out to be good.

How much did you pay for your Type R? I know dealers are buying them up for massive mark ups, only reason I haven't gotten a new car since I got mine haha

That thing is too big to be called an Integra imo. That aside, even though you don't push it, I'd be SHOCKED if you found the Integra even mucking around was even tolerable after the Type R. I love driving this thing even just cruising.

I dunno, I guess you could, it's your life. But that's some generic ass boring car you'd be stepping into, and you have something legitimately special and connected and fun to drive in your hands right now.

I think you're crazy but it's your life. Enjoy that Accord-egra if you want :)

I think you should. Please throw your money at Acura so they can bring back the ITR. Jokes aside, judging by your driving style and needs, the integra might be a better fit. It’s basically a nicer Si hatchback and I think it looks very good in gray. People love shitting endlessly on this car but I think it’s pretty nice.

with all that being said I can’t guarantee that you won’t regret selling your CTR ??‍♂

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Here is the nitty gritty situation. I'm getting rid of the CTR regardless. While its a great car, I don't feel its worth the elevated price tag. I actually ordered a car back in December that still hasn't arrived yet. Given the used market on these has softened a bit since then, I have a feeling they are going to re-evaluate my trade and the deal will fall through. So I'm looking at more options.

STI has been cancelled, so thats out. Corolla GR will hit the streets in October, so that's an option. The elantra N is cool, but I don't think its for me. I had a Golf R and loved it but I cannot get over the new interior - WTF!?!?

This led me to checking out the integra. It could be a good blend of whats NEEDED for a daily until the inevitable conversion to electric.

I had a Golf R as well, and I share your feelings about the new model's interior. The car is also too heavy IMO; my GTI was more fun.

If you haven't taken delivery of your CTR yet, though, if they still give you good money on your trade and you can get the car for a reasonable price, I'd recommend you get it. No one can tell of course what you will think about it, but man, the car is so effin' good. Like, transcendently fun. I still get a big smile every time I get in the damn thing, even when it's -20 F. Ok, then I'm shivering because it doesn't have heated seats, but I'm still smiling, damn it!

Seriously, it's like automotive Viagra. I'm 60 and driving this thing makes me feel like I'm 20 again. Only without being such an incredible dumb ass as I was when I was actually 20.

I would really wait for the type S. Hell the only future car i would consider trading the type r would be the new nissan z with whatever nismo treatment they have planned.

ive always owned performance oriented cars and the base integra aint it.
in your situation i would go for an audi or mb product. Has the tech, nice interior and goes fast. Just dont keep it past warranty.

One thing I've learned about car ownership is that if you buy the top trim levels, you tend to do way better with resale value and the cost of ownership is lower in the long run(while owning a better vehicle). You have the top trim level currently, and would be trading for something that might offer better features for your needs, but will surely suffer depreciation faster during ownership if a Type S does indeed hit the market.

This isn't the end-all-be-all of car ownership, but it's just another angle to consider. My $0.02.

The R isn't worth the elevated price tag but the Integra is over the Si? Seems like a downgrade to the R for not much money savings and not worth the premium over an Si.

The GR Corolla sounds cool and I would have considered it if it was out when I was shopping for the R. But at $40K and assuming no upgrade to the GR Yaris powertrain, I still don't see it as an upgrade to the R.

If you want something more refined for a daily but still a blast to drive, the IS500 would be at the top of my list. No manual sucks though.......if that car had a manual, it would be one of the few I'd probably pick over the R, maybe.

Don't look at the price of the car. Look at the cost of ownership.

Doubt it that requires a massive amount of new sheet metal. I think a Type S version of the four door hatch with the K20 engine is likely.
