CR gives the 2016 Civic a bad review. But the real car magazines give it a thumbs up. I would trust them more than CR. CR is just a bunch of old foggies
I agree that consumer reports judges the new Civic harshly based on Infotainment issues. The problem is though they do just compile data from their subscribers. Just that giving a poor rating when everything else is fine, seems unwarranted.

This is why consumer reports is a load of shit. It counts every fault regardless of severity equally. No volume knob or the infotainment system is buggy? The ding from that issue has the same weighting as an catastrophic engine failure you might see in something much less 'reliable'
But that hits everyone equally. I read 3 out of every 4 Ford warranty claims are for their sync infotainment system. Take away 75% of Ford's warranty claims and where would they be ranked?

I sent J D Powers an email criticising their negative assessment of the new civic and they replied to me with the statement; "we don't actually test cars at all(!), we rely on readers feedback about the new cars"
Well I guess civic owners with a gripe give them more "feedback" than those that are happy with the car.

Its like if you had to pay to access Yelp or Google reviews for stuff.

Well, today the rear driver side power window stopped working on my car which has less than 6K miles. So... reliability? not so much.

Also, my EX-L has all the infotainment problems - it's not just Touring.

Consumer Reports does not have advertising, which means their reviews are likely more objective than Car & Driver, Newsweek, Cars.com, Edmunds.com, and other websites and publications with ads. They rate reliability on direct feedback from their subscribers through a very thorough annual online survey, so clearly the head units have major problems. The age of CU's subscribers is irrelevant. You can disagree with how they weight the general score, but their reliability data is not flawed. I was about to purchase a 2017 manual EX sedan the day the report came out, but I am reassessing: I am not purchasing a new car that needs constant repair.

I've had Hondas/Accords for years. 2016 LX is my fourth. By far the best so far. Time will tell.

I subscribe to CR and I only read their reports for a bit of guidance. Some of the problems they report are non-issues, especially when it comes to the cars they review. I bought a Civic Touring and so far I have no issues with anything - no rattle from sub woofer, the turbo isn't offensively loud to me, and there isn't any paint chipping. (Of course, I have 2 layers of wax on the car, soon to be three layers.) The ride is great, I like the interior, and the combined MPG is just a bit north of 36. The only negative I have experienced noted by some of the reviews I read is that I infrequently turn down the volume when I make a turn. So, I am very please with my purchase despite CR's rating of the car and I would purchase the same car in a heart beat - no regrets.

Except, I subscribe to CR and participate in their surveys. I have found their ratings flawed relative to the car purchases I have made. I can't tell you why my experiences have been different, but I am glad I didn't make a decision to purchase simply on CR's review of a car or their survey results. Using CR other than one factor to make car purchasing decisions is an error. You may feel differently, but that's my personal experience.

Well, it looks like Consumer Reports has released their Reliability Rating for the 2016 Civic (they had previously established an early rating of "good") which is still one of the best sources to get balanced Reliability since they use massive surveys:

Rating: Poor

Blah. The Scoring goes from 0-100%. The prius is probably 90% and the Corolla is probably 82% while the Civic is just above the Fiat 500L and Ford Escort at the very bottom with about an 18%. Yes, 18%.

Now if you dig into it, it scores "Excellent" in all categories except for:
- Paint/Trim: Very good
- Body Hardware: Very good
- Power Equipment: Good
- Audio System: Poor

Based on that, I have to wonder how the problems of Android Auto for Samsung devices + Subwoofer rattle affected the overall reliability rating.

Well, there you have it.
My touring was in the shop for 2 months for navigation problems. Now it's going back because it keep I keep getting random beeping that not always resolved by turning off the car. It also comes up with errors basically telling me abs lane assist and collision mitigation are Ono functioning. The car is awesome EXCEPT for the info center!

I saw this first hand today for the first time. I was playing music over Bluetooth then it started stuttering and I tried to change tracks. Then, I realized the screen wasn't responding and I couldn't even change sources or turn it off. The screen started flashing every 3-5 seconds then eventually it did reboot and everything was fine. That just shouldn't happen. I don't mean to offend android fans but they shouldn't have used android. They should have used qnx for the OS.

I'm considering buying a 2017 LX . Do you think it's a safer bet to bypass the higher trims with ocassional problems in the infotainment system ?

I haven't had any problems with my infotainment system. SOMETIMES I accidentally turn the volume down, but it's not enough to make me regret getting a Touring edition Civic.

I've had occasional glitches but i really enjoy having CarPlay. I wouldn't give up the infotainment system and lose CarPlay functionality.

Thanks, I've just been afraid from the various complaints I've heard on here. Though few ,it's still alarming. Glad your content with your new car.
