This is one area where I suck at cleaning - wheels. Mainly because I can't get my hand or fingers through the interior of the wheels to do a full cleaning of the inside walls, and to add the protectant from brake dusts.

For those that are really detailed with cleaning their vehicles, what do you do? Would you have to take off the wheels to fully clean it, or am I reading way into this and no-one does it?

The interior walls of my wheels from my 06 Civic (which is an alloy exterior) looks horrible, mainly because it's very visible from the outside. The new Touring wheels, it's not so visible, but still, what's everyone's process of cleaning the inside of their wheels?

Even if you have a floor jack, you could quickly jack it up giving you easy access to the inside of the wheels?

That is true also. There's quite a few floor jacks in the garage that can be put to use :)

Unfortunately it's not like our old Hondas and it will need to be raised 4 times instead of 2, but oh well more excercise!

If you want to get really anal about it, take the wheel off. This will give you unfettered access to both the front and the back of the wheel for cleaning.

I would highly recommend getting a set of Wheel Woolies from Detailed Image. This will make cleaning wheels a dream, with the various sizes. The EZ Detail Brushes are also handy to have, however I would take the Wheel Woolies over these if they were just for personal use.

Here is a review I did comparing the two I mentioned.

These brushes look awesome!
These and some IronX (correct me if I'm wrong) should help a lot. Once really clean, clay bar what's left. If there's still dirt, they're going to need a medium cut polish to clean up.

Iron-X is nice for cleaning wheels and I very often use that depending on how dirty the wheels actually are. Your process is about right, and Meguairs M205 does a nice job glossing up wheels.

Ive done this for years, super simple to clean wheels and even the engine bay with this method, usually no scrubbing required.

Buy a small pressure canister, ya know the one you pump at the top to pressurize that usually people put RoudUp into to spray around their garden.

Anyway, next step, find a good laundry detergent that is designed for clothes that are washed on a delicate or silk cycle. The ones Ive found work best are Wisk, Woolite or Persil. The HE versions of these are even better.

Dilute the laundry detergent with water in the pressure tank. Use garden hose to blow off any loose debris on the wheels then spray with laundry detergent mixture. Go about washing your car as usual allowing it to sit on the wheels, when you're done washing the car, hose off the wheels.

Laundry detergents that are designed for delicate or silk cycles are designed to attract dirt and oil with little friction.
