The compressor never (short answer) needs to be replaced. It's a way for the dealer to make money.
The condenser; I preferred to go to my honest specialist A/C shop and pay to have it replaced once 3 years ago.

You story is too often read here abbot a stealership . You will learn.
Coming from a honda tech, compressors indeed do leak. sorry you may of had a bad experience and thought you were getting ripped off

Are the new compressors that they are replacing them with (A03 part number) also leaking?

Pretty sure I’m in the same boat with the ac. I just started to have the issue with the whistling noise and hot air on drivers side. 2018 ex with 53,000. Have an appointment and they said it was in warranty for the condenser. I’m curious how many people have sold or would sell their civic due to this issue knowing it’ll most likely cost $2000 at some point for evaporator or compressor?

They claimed that the "vacuum machine" detected a leak and would not let them charge the system. My understanding is that a leak that could be detected under vacuum would be "huge" which doesn't make sense as there was still some Freon in the system when I took it in. Since I live in California Honda probably wants to make sure I don't come back twice for the same issue or they are exposed to the "lemon law" which makes then liable to buy back the car.

Having said that I can't really blame the dealer as they did not make the faulty AC system and they are trying their best to save the goodwill of their customers built up over decades and cover for Honda. My car is low miles and fairly new and I plan to keep it for a long time but it is technically out of warrantee and I chose not to buy the extended warrantee. I can't say that $800 for a new condenser, evaporator, and Freon charge is unfair but it is frustrating. I did check prices at other shops in my area and the dealer was cheaper for the AC work which was a surprise to me.

Hopefully some day I will get my money back from Honda from this class action suit. I hope you continue to have good luck with you AC system.

What upsets me is that I wanted to keep this vehicle for about 15 years. I've had to replace the condenser on average every 2 years, so it'll suck once the 10 year extended warranty is up on the affected vehicle years/models.

Anyone know which firm is handling the Class Action Lawsuit, or is it void at this point?

I've replaced my compressor once, and I'm about to replace the condenser for the third time. My car is a 2016 coupe touring and it only has 55k miles. I am so disappointed. The last condenser was only replaced 9 months ago and it's already leaking again. They told me a seal was leaking the last time, and they showed me where all of the fluid was leaking out. I'd be interested in joining a class action lawsuit because going through 3 condensers and 1 compressor in under 55k miles is ridiculous.

I just completed the online form via the link at the bottom of this article (https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit...ty-defect-class-action-lawsuit-investigation/). Apparently an attorney will contact you if you qualify.

Apparently, this is the law group handling the suit, so I filled out the form on their website, inquiring about whether or not they're handling a suit against Honda Motors related to the AC issue.

I just went through the condenser and evaporator replacement thing and I considered trading in my car for a new one but with the prices and shortages of new cars it didn't make sense to me. With some "good will" and the condenser warranty from Honda it cost me $800 to fix the car vs about $10,000 to get a new car. My car is a 2019 with 32,000 miles.

How does this whole goodwill thing work?I’ve been reading about this and I’m only at the beginning of the ac issue. I just tend to go down the rabbit hole and want to know what I’m in for if the worst happens.

I don't blame you for holding off on buying a new car. Doesn't sound like it would be a good move. I'm wondering if affected owners should purchase an extended warranty.

Luckily (I think), I purchased an extended, bumper to bumper warranty from Endurance a year ago for about 4k which will cover my car for another 9 years or 175k miles, but I'm not sure they're going to cover all these condensers.

If your car is low miles and recently out of factory warrantee and you have an expensive repair (like the evaporator) if you take it to the dealer and ask for "goodwill" help with the repair the service manager can ask someone at Honda and depending on the situation they will make an allowance for the repair. I think it is usually "split it" which is it was in my case. For these AC issues I think it is pretty much "automatic" if you meet some criteria regarding mileage and time out of warrantee.

They seriously just need to regress to the old refrigerant and stop with this crap. It's causing AC problems for every manufacturer that uses it. Or they need to come up with a new refrigerant because this crap also does not cool as good as the old stuff.
According to some articles 1234 is highly corrosive when coming in contact with water and is flammable at 402 degress Fahrenheit.

Yeah, for sure seems like it. I wonder if they solved the problem for newer Honda models? If so, I wish a newer AC unit would fit in the models with all the problems.

How do you diagnose a leaking compressor? My dealership sent me a video of how they diagnosed mine, and it was a load of crap.
