Your saying the last 6 of vin is serial for all hatches off line including the R? My vin is 0000128 and car was made in june I think it was. What are the "time periods" because they made for example 320k hatches in 18. I would think they are way past the 128th car by june they are past the 128th car the first day of production.
how can they make 320k hatches if the capacity of swindon plant is 160k cars per year?

Thought I read that in one of these news releases about the closure. Ok so 160k. Same question as I had before about my vin and your theory?

I bought mine the 1st of March 2019 for MSRP. it took me 6 months to find a place to sell me one at that price. I got it at Roush Honda in Westerville, Ohio. Traded in my SI.

follow up...here's what i found out. it's in the VIN...but, that also accounts for some cars that were crushed/destroyed since they didn't pass final quality etc. the last VIN of a model year is the actual and exact number of each year's build.

the fk8 has it's own sequence of VINs, correct, and is NOT part of all civic VINs. non-FK8s have their own series of VINs due to the model ide in the 4th-6th digits of the VIN (ie, FK7, FK8, etc.).

Um.. no one really questioned that nither did I. That still dies not explain the difference between vin and badge number. But lets follow what you said. There is a 57 car number difference between my vin ending in 198 ( i mispoke before when i said 128) and my badge of 141. So according to you they crushed 57 cars over 25 percent of their first 198 cars? That makes no sense.

and that's why i said there is no relationship of serial plaque to vin...they're randomly picked out of a parts bin. thus you cannot make a direct correlation between serial and vin since there is no correlation. heck, it could be vin 1000 and badge 2000. that does NOT mean they crushed 1000 cars at all nor was implied in my writing whatsoever.

IF crude example, VIN is 1234 and skips to 1240 with 6 VINs never seeing the market - those 6 missing VINs are the crushed ones. those crushed ones would also have some random plague on the console since it may have made it to the end of the line and fell off the conveyor belt or something. not only are those 6 VINs gone - so are those 6 random serials.

again, serial plaque is an ok assumption but is not the exact answer. you can buy into the marketing hype all you want...it's still a random number assigned to a car. of course the the highest serial plaque to date is a good guess but not the exact answer.

So the guy who bought serial 1 for 200,000 got a random car? Because if i remember right his vin wasnt 000001 either. Truth is no one knows but honda. Its been speculated for 2 years almost now, truth is no one knows.

My 2018 Type R has a badge number 8484 with a VIN of SSHFK8G76JU200548 which means that < 548 Type Rs were created in 2017?

Minor caveat, but I'd actually argue there can be a small correlation since I have yet to hear of a single 2019 Type R with a badge number < 20000 and a 2017 Type R with a badge > 20000 (possibly 10000). Part of me feels like the badges are created in sequential batches and each Type R from is assigned a badge from it's given batch. IE, if the badges are done in sets of 10000, it's highly unlikely for a car with VIN 23672 to have a badge < 20000; likewise it's unlikely for a car with a VIN of 00012 to have a badge > 10000.

One of the things I will argue is that the number of Type Rs sold < highest VIN# < highest badge#.

I would say that serial 1 was a hand picked one since it was for charity, the rest were not. It is most likely an outlier, or exception, to the rule.

There is a definite correlation in that in a given year, the lower the VIN # the lower the badge #. Im sure there are some exceptions but I was tracking VINs vs badge #s for awhile when researching and looking for my car (used).

Hey everyone, first post here. Just picked up a 2017 CTR with super low mileage, as I didn't want to deal with markups or fighting tooth and nail with dealerships.

Either way, my VIN number ends in 197, but my badge number is 1970. I was wondering wtf the discrepancy was about. I think it's kind of dumb of Honda not to make the plaque number match the VIN number. As if it would've been that hard to do to have them sequential. To owners- to anyone spending huge money on essentially an economy car- you'd think Honda would give it's fans just that. There's a sense of pride knowing and sharing your number within the community. Honda knows there are 538494716 Type R fans, also. I consider us as brand ambassadors- we are selling Hondas for Honda by talking about the many ups of the car.

Yeah mines 141 but vin 198... its an old topic unfortunately there is zero corralation between vin and badge no.matter how much people want there to be. Its been confirmed Honda through news channel various times.
