Let me thank everyone that has given valuable input. Still a tough decision as you all bring up good points. It seems like there's a quite a few of you that have had or know people that had an S2000 and ended up regretting selling it. I love the S2000 platform, I'm just not sure I love MY specific S2000. I didn't hunt for it for weeks and hand pick a cherry model. I test drove 3 locally, and picked the one with the lowest miles. Issue is that a bit modded when I got it. It's on lowering springs, has a header, cat, exhaust. I put on an intake and did some other light mods. It's a fantastic car and there are the special days I really love driving it. Since I don't really see myself tracking either the S2000 or Type R, getting a Type R may be a bit of a waste as some of you mention. I agree the Si makes a great daily and I'd likely be giving up some creature comforts for the Type R. Definitely a tough decision as there are pro/cons to both.
I'm really interested to see the 2020 Type R to see if there are any major changes. The addition of heated seats/change to 19" wheels would likely push me to the Type R. Either way, I'm going to wait a few months after the baby arrives to really figure out what is going to work best. Like someone mentioned, budgeting for new expenses will need to be taken into account with daycare and whatnot. That'll also be spring/early summer and would allow for the S2000 to bring max money if I do decide to sell.
