I really dig the booty. The only thing is it definitely gives off the vibe of rebooted 90's car.

I agree the front just doesn't work it looks off. If they could remedy that with a smaller grille and maybe some different angles on the hood/fender area I'd be all over it. Let's see where they go with the production model...

I like it, though wish it looked even more retro like the old Z, which had a more voluptuous shape.

Not interested in buying 2 seaters though. Can't fit the two kids.

I think I'm... for real... going to get one.

I do have first model year jitters though. '84 Z31s had leaking injectors and was the only year that didn't have a water cooler turbo. '90 Z32s had "soft" valves. '03 350zs had front alignment and window track issues. '09s had... at the least... the clutch cylinder problems. Every time Nissan makes a first year Z... at least in my lifetime... they're a bit rough.

I'm thinking a late 2021 release as a 2022 model year. I really need a yellow one and I'm hoping it's isn't a release color. 300zx and 370zs I think only had yellow as an option for the first year or two. 350z had it in the middle of the production cycle... but not the beginning or end. I really... need... yellow.

I'm sure they'll have a model with a spoiler... might have to get a sport package over a base. At least for all the Z31 and Z32s no spoiler = non turbo. Spoiler = turbo. I can't look at a Z w/o a spoiler and not think somethings missing. I think the thing that's getting me about that grill is how close it's top left/right corners come to the headlights. There's just something off about it.

I was really feeling this car based on what I've read so far and on the yellow render that was floating around the internet... definitely not feeling it anymore based on the link OP posted ?

That one isn’t there yet for me but better... plus the side scoops for SMICs are there. If that one and the other had a baby... I think it’d be about right.

Nothing a few aftermarket parts can't fix.

Also according to MotorTrend:

  • The 2022 Nissan 400Z will go on sale in America in the spring of 2021.

I'm hoping they make a 2+2 variant like the G35/G37 with manual.

I figured it's only fair to update my stance. After seeing more video footage and pics from multiple angles, I'm really liking this car again. The grill still needs work but the rest of it is pretty well done. I'm not in the market personally, but the looks combined with the 400hp twin-turbo and stick make it a pretty easy buy... as long as it's priced right.

Pretty sure that’s what the Q60 currently is. They just kept throwing the VQ in the 370Z while the Q60 got the VR awhile back... making it seem even more dated compared to its Infiniti cousin. There’s VR-swapped 370Zs... Nissan just refused to update the powertrain. There was at least 3 powertrain revisions on 350Zs and Nissan just left the 370Z to die on the vine.

One thing I will say about the huge gaping maw... maybe it’ll alleviate the overheating issues tracked 370Z apparently had. There’s a lot of area for a radiator. I’d still like to see SMIC ducts.

My R is now experiencing 3rd gear mini grinds even on super slow shifts. I'm so over the trans on this car - if the 400Z turns out to be solid, I'm trading in.

Mine started doing that more and more with 3rd gear. I constantly felt like I was running into something and the gear wasn’t messing properly.

Looks ok to me, I like the overall shape, but think both bumpers need a little work or mods. Either way I’m sold for a VR30 with a manual. I’ve been super tempted to get a used Q50 since they could be had for so cheap but I just love driving manual still. My dad just got another 300zx TT I would love to pull a new TT Z up to it when I visit.

One bummer thing I did see in looking at that VR30DDTT is that is has pretty poor headroom. There was a reflash and the turbos are so undersized it made peak power at 5000 RPM... a full 2000 shy of redline and the car lost 50 whp along the way. It's has smaller turbos than the old Z32... and those were pretty wimpy. Hoping we get something a little bigger...
