I dunno man, I'm more likely to go for a 235. It's already running wider than the RE71R and my 255/40/17 RE71R did already feel pretty nicely pinched
Rich, FYI, there is a set of 235 RE71s that just posted on the Akron Sports Car Club FB forum.

I was thinking of 235's but I think the gearing will suck. I'm now seriously considering the 255's because they don't look too bad in the picture below.

these are all 255/40s on 17x8s

Honestly, this is street class, it's always kinda been "squeeze the biggest damn tire on you can" game
Yeah but pinching Hoosiers is different than pinching street tires.

The Yoks definitely do not like being pinched. And I've heard from some that the Falkens are the same. So, the tide is turning...

I've just seen all 255s on podium wins lately, Falkens seemed fine with 255s on 8s

So what's everyone planning for tires in GS this year? Find a set of RE71Rs? Switch to Falken RT660s? A052s? Something else?

I'm leaning towards the Falkens and since they seem to run wide, I'm wondering about 235/40/17's for the gearing advantage and not having to pinch a 245/40/17 on a 17x8.

I won't be running my Si as much as my STR 2019 MX-5 but will sometimes run it with my son. We're coming from RE71Rs on the Si. I will mostly be on the A052s as I just picked up a set for the MX-5 since it has lots of camber.
I just picked up a set of 245/40/18 re71rs off tirerack. $177 a tire plus $70 off instantly for prez day. Was planning on trying out the RT660s but it was a hard deal to say no to. While I’m here can anyone suggest some Alignment advice/tire pressures? I’m a little late to the party.... thanks

What date code? Probably 2018 old stock, but can you please confirm for us?

Tirerack says it has four 255/40/17s left in stock. My fear is that they are old back-of-the-shelf tires.

Depending on the size the RE71Rs either stopped being made in 2019 or 2020 so you are likely to get 2018-2019 stock on most orders.
