Hi All,
In Nov 2019, I went to my dealer for an oil change as the maintenance minder was showing 10% oil life. At that time my car's odometer was at 22200 something.
My dealer usually runs a promotion for oil and filter change at 30 bucks.

Oil & Filter Change
SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL. EVERYDAY LOW PRICE
$29.99

Last week my oil life was showing 10% again and the odometer reads 25980. I went to local oil change shop (grease monkey) and they charged me 75 for a Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil change. I have a few questions for the pro's out there.
  1. Because of the pandemic, I didn't drive much. Is it okay to display oil change notification in about 3700 miles?
  2. I am wondering what kind of oil my dealer is using?
  3. Is the price fair for a synthetic oil change at grease monkey?

Thanks for your response.

1- 2019
2- If you were at 10% at 22200 and now you're at 10% again at 22980 that means he did not reset the oil meter properly or he did nothing at 22200...

Can't really comment on price i'm in canada but honda dealership here is 69$CAD full synthetic oil change...so 75$USD is expensive.

I think you have issues with numbers...
So...2019,
22 200 miles oil change 1,
25 980 oil change 2?

3700 miles between oil change notifications on the Maintenance Minder is not shocking considering. My guess is that since you don't drive all that much, your drives are short which actually isn't great for the car. That, plus the fact it was nearly a year between changes is why the MM popped up. It isn't just based on mileage which is why I actually think the MM is a great feature.

Yes. Sorry for the typo.
I did fixed the post. So it is possible that my dealer is using regular oil instead of synthetic?

The oil life percentage doesn’t actually read the oil’s life. It’s an algorithm that looks how how many times you’ve turn the car on/off, distance you’ve driven, driving conditions (how much throttle you give the car), and how long it’s been since your last oil change. It’s an estimation not a guarantee and yes Honda dealerships use synthetic oil because 0w-20 is a full synthetic blend oil only. There is no conventional oil blend that has a 0w. Also the $75 oil change is a little hefty, but not ridiculously overcharged. You could have found a better price though that’s for sure. Make sure they are resetting the oil life indicator

if by dealer you mean an official Honda service point?
then no way they used anything other than what is recommended for your vehicle which is syntetic oil 0w 20 unless you specify something else but they will not put petroleum based oil in your engine even if you ask them to.

Honda dealers will only use synthetic in our engines. My dealer charges $65 for a synthetic oil change/filter.

Because 0W20 oil is only synthetic, you can find it as "regular" oil

Doing myself ; Penzoil synth ( bought in sale ) + Honda oil filter cost me les than $55 CND
Amsoil Signature Series might be overkill but makes me feel better when I do run the car hard sometimes. Then use the filter on their website thats 20 usd. But I do change every 10k miles but mostly highway.

OP,
If you got an oil change done & reset the oil life reminder to 100%, then parked the car up & never drove it, the oil life reminder would still count down. Newer cars factor in the age of the oil, not just engine revs, mileage etc. Wife's Z51 hardly gets driven, but I still have to change the oil annually. Hope this helps, cheers!
