This guide will serve as instructions for flashing the latest firmware for the 2016 sedan, and will attempt to answer common questions.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU FLASH FIRMWARE 1.F197.00. THIS FIRMWARE WAS NOT MEANT FOR THE 2016 SEDAN AND WILL CAUSE ISSUES, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! THE CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR CAR IS 1.F197.60!
1) My civic is on old firmware, how do I upgrade?
The upgrade is straight forward, simply copy the MDT file to the root of a flash drive (located in the 1110 folder of the zip file) (recommended 1-4GB flash drive). Be sure the drive is formatted to FAT32.
2) Before beginning the upgrade procedure, be sure to do a complete factory reset, including uninstalling Honda Hack and side loaded apps. Also make sure you have 1.2GB free on the head unit's internal storage.
3) After upgrading, be sure that you re-enable the security system, by pressing the Audio button for 2 seconds, you should hear 2 beeps after enabling.
4) After upgrading, initialization can take 10-45 minutes depending on previous firmware version. Be patient, and be sure you leave the car running during this process.
5) Honda Hack will install on the new firmware and works as expected, as does Android Auto and Car Play.
