I am trying to decide between a black matte vinyl or a high gloss vinyl. I think the dull matte would match other mouldings on car, but gloss black i think would look better and also match my gloss black wheels, but would it not look right against the other dull black window moldings and some of the trim pieces in grills?

Do one side matte and the other gloss, then decided which one you like better.

Defo gloss.

It'll look like cheap rubber if its matte, and the OEM black option is glossy. It also blends much more nicely with the rear tinted windows (if your car came with them).

My vote (from experience) is that matte looks better, and matches the other moldings on the car.

The only shop I could find in the area that does this just quoted me $700. That’s like more than twice as much than I thought it would cost.

Buy like 3 cans of plastidip for like $35 then do yourself. If you mess up can just peel it off and try again. Three cans should easily be enough even with redos in certain areas.

Worse comes to worse is that you wasted 35 dollars.

Buy a roll of gloss vinyl and have a go. I've done this loads of times and it's not actually that difficult.

On my Si, I went with matte and I think it matched the car best at the time. Only cost me about $18 for vinyl and tools.

This is what I used. Wasn't too difficult but definitely takes some patience and make sure the surface is very clean. I'd at a minimum make sure you use rubbing alcohol before applying this stuff, to ensure the bond is good. I cut it in strips and it was much easier to work with. I was able to do both sides of my Si sedan and still have some left over, but you have to be thoughtful with your cutting of the strips, etc. I removed the side mirrors and peeled back trim while I was installing this, so that I made sure I covered it all and did it right.

Plasti dip is 10 times easier and holds a lot longer...just saying, matte black plasti dip is a perfect match for the other trims around.

For 700$ they might as well wrap your whole car haha.
Don’t over think it. I wrapped my civic si myself, terrible on the first window, pro by the 3rd window and I even wrapped the oem window visor by the end.

I wrapped my EP3 weather strips 15 years ago and it's still on there.
must not have the same climate over there cause here with the winters and the ice scraping and slush and salts and shit...no vinyl survive on a car more than a couple years AT most and around trims like that where like i said you will be scrubbing ice, vinyl won't last, corners starts to peel off and chip away after just a few weeks sometimes

might want to look into it 😂 :

Plasti dip is at least 3 to 4 times more rugged, and it's held on there 3 to 4 times as strongly...(all my semi-professional best guess honestly but still) try to peel it away, you'll see what i mean.

The thin window mouldings i'm not overly concerned about doing but what about the door handles and the front grill? the grill would have to be pretty wide vinyl as its a few inches in a few spots... but yeah up north in Ohio with the ice and snow, I feel the vinyl wont last and start peeling off ??

The front is actually split up into a few different sections, so it's not as difficult as it might seem. I've even seen pre-cut kits online, though I always prefer to buy vinyl on the roll. That way, you have more to hold onto and you can have a second go if you mess it up.

I wouldn't worry about the weather resistance. Decent quality vinyl is really tough. Just think of any commercial vehicles, cop cars, ambulances etc near you. They all have various types of vinyl on them and they hold up well.
