The button is a mechanism that pushes the shift changing mechanism down. You can't just move the knob back and forth, you have to push down. To get a better idea of my horrible explanation, watch this video: (you see the person push the little metal bar down).

I changed mine and haven't had any issues, all I have to do is push down on my knob and go from D to R or whatever and I'm done.

Its all fun and games until that shift knob with no locking button gets slapped into reverse or park on the highway.
Thanks for your concern. No need to worry though, it has a locking button.

As far as king of rice, is there like a poll to determine that? Define "rice". Read somewhere that any mod that doesn't improve the performance of a car is considered to be "rice". Wouldn't that be about 85% of the mods out there? Just an opinion? Cost of the part being replaced? Didn't realize that adding small touches here and there to personalize my civic would be frowned upon or laughed at. To each their own I guess.

Thanks for that! Once I get the hatch back, I'll be able to play with it a bit more with it.

BTW, I got all the parts I spoke about and realized that I did not need the thread adapters at all! I can just screw on the great ball to the shift adapter without any issues. To be honest, I'm not very knowledgeable in this stuff so It was a trial an error thing that ended up working out in the end :D:D

Did you end up changing it at all? Looking to do this as well

after properly following the video instructions to take the stock shift knob off, you could pretty much replace it with any shift knob as long as it as "locking" feature.

Here's the new kid in the game. Small, sleek and works great.

Great, but I hope you didn’t pay an arm for it.
I probably did. I looked all over alibaba and other foreign sites for it. But no luck ?

The knob is made by MICIEI, it’s everywhere.
