MM of my 2018-SI shows A19 (brake service). I did the brake service back in Sept-2019 and I have driven the car for 20K KM since.

I talked to my service advisor earlier today and he told me Honda maintenance schedule calls for this service once a year or 20K KM. I never owned a car which requires such frequent brake services.

What does this brake service entail? It costs about $170CAN. If I know what they actually do, I may go to a local mechanic for it.

Basically an inspection. Check the brake lines, pad and rotor condition, and clean/lubricate the caliper slide pins.

Thanks for your quick response. I can see you are from GTA as well.
How do you guys deal with this brake service? Leave it in MM or pay $170? Cost is expensive for only inspection.

You could jack up the car and inspect it yourself, and then clear the MM

That is what I do. I perform as much maintenance as I can myself.

If you've ever done any brakes, these will be a breeze. They're pretty much as simple as it gets.

Wish I know how to do this.
Also, for warranty claims, we have to show that we perform regular maintenance to the car. Like in an oil change, we have to show at least the invoice of the engine oil. How do you show that you did the inspection?

If warranty is your major concern I would get the work done at a dealer or other licensed mechanic so you have a paper trail. My warranty is long gone in my eyes, I'm tuned, FBO, bigger turbo. If my calipers seize that's an excuse for a big brake kit.

Mm9 is a brake service and chasis inspection, they inspect all the suspension and all fluids, fuel lines and such they remove the pads clean and deglaze them apply m77 paste to pad contact points, clean and grease the slide pins and clean the brackets as well they also inspect the caliper slides piston boots and make sure nothing is seized. Might be forgetting something but yeah lol

Good to know.
While regular inspection and maintenance are always good, I do not recall doing this with other cars. I remember I would change the brake pads and discs when they worn down.

Is this a Honda thing? Do Accord, CRV have the similar maintenance schedules?

Brake just need to lubricate the caliper slide once a year or less. Did dealer do that ?
My small town mechanic ask me $80 and tell me if brake need some work.

Most car don't need so many service as Honda MM show.
Dealer don't make money with selling cars, they make money with service.

Keep track of receipts, and I think the manual has a section to log maintenance. Most likely you'll be out of warranty before any of those parts fail from lack of maintenance anyway.
