Has anyone replaced factory rotors? I just was forced to have mine done, excessive corrosion on both of my rear rotors. My front rotors are in "almost new shape" but the backs were chipping away and falling apart. Has anyone else experienced this in their X or am I just unlucky?

Not a peep from my brakes, my hatch has been flawless! This is one car I don't have to worry about sundry items. Haven't even had a nail in the tire which was a proverb for me. The pads are just right and will be using OEM when its time.

How's your brake pedal feel?

Maybe you had air in your rear circuit which was not allowing the pad to compress down into the rotor firmly.

You've got a line of broken in pad material and then nothing. All of my rotors have that grayish pencil hue to them.

I'll post a pic of what I am talking about.

BTW, has your car been through a winter? I just bought a beater 2000 Honda civic for winter.

Yes it has been through a winter. The car was initially delivered to a dealer in upstate ny in December of 2015, and dealer traded 2 times before I acquired it in may 2016. I'm guessing this prolonged time it was just sitting started wearing on the rotors. It was through the 2016-2017 winter with me driving it daily. The brake pedal feels fine, I didn't notice any difference at all. The rear rotors started making noise around 30k miles and it progressively got worse until at 37k they were in desperate need of replacement. I finally broke down and got new ones because I make a weekly 275 mile round trip to a casino with friends and I didn't want to risk my brakes giving out. Car feels brand new now, new tires and rear brakes make for a happy worry free owner. Speaking of winter cars, Ive got my eye on a 2004 Honda CRV LX 4x4 5-speed with just under 200k miles that has been sitting at a used car dealer for months. I really don't want my civic on the road during the winter as I have a commute to my college that lies on top of a 3 mile hill. I find that these cars are horrible in the winter, and it gives me an excuse to buy a second car :)

Went to do the 3 year brake fluid change on my '17 Sport Hatch 6MT and revealed rear rotors that are a nightmare. It's not just surface rust--they're definitely grooved on the outside of the rotor. The pads look fine. The first two pics are of the left rear. The last pic shows the right rear, taken through the wheel. This is the original set, with only 22K.

I've observed no problems in braking. No shenanigans through the pedal at all. I don't recall seeing this when I swapped from my winter set in early May, but I might have overlooked it.

I've been working from home since early April, so very few miles have been racked up--maybe 100/month. I know rust can form on the surface of the rotors after only a few days, but this isn't just a little rust.

Time to replace the rotors, I presume? Might as well do pads at the same time, of course. Any thoughts?

I also used Powerstop Evolution Sport rotors on mine. I also had a 2017 hatch which I was planning to swap the rotors on last spring, but the car met with an unfortunate demise JUST after I bought the brake job parts, so I put them on my new 2020 instead.

Hey I’m also in Canada and I was wondering if you have a link for the power stop rotors and pads. Is there a big difference between hatchback LX and Sport trims or is it just a difference between models hatch/sedan/ si

The Si uses bigger rotors and has a different pad size for the front.

You can check rockauto. That’s where I got mine.

I use R1Concept rotors the geomet carbon ones & just recently tried their pads. No rust at all on the rotor with their special coating, but I do live in Ca where we don’t see salts on the road so not entirely sure how they’ll hold up to harsh winter conditions. Their semi-metallic brake pads are good have a great bite, although this is talking on a brembo conversion so it’s not as fair of a comparison to stock. No complains other than brake dust, but it’s what happens with semi metallics. I prefer their better initial bite than ceramic pads so I live with the dust. Will try Hawk or stop tech sport pads nexts after these are done

Well I bought mine from Amazon.com (USA). They sell them on Amazon.ca as well, but the prices are way better on .com even with the 30% XR. Of course right now there aren't many choices with the borders closed. (I ordered mine in January and went and picked them up in Niagara Falls before Covid shut the world down...)

Search for: Power Stop K7574 Z23 Evolution Sport Front & Rear Brake Kit

They will fit all models except the SI and Type R.

I was just looking into them and found a Canadian supplier here: https://www.tdotperformance.ca/

After you replace the pads and rotors, one way to prevent this from happening is maintaining and lubricating the pads and calipers regularly. Yes surface rust is unavoidable in some places but it’s usually wiped clean when the brakes are applied. The reason the ring of rust has formed around the outer edge is the brake pad is most likely jammed in the rear pad carrier.

You need to lubricate the tabs where the pads touch the carrier. Also the caliper sliding pins need to be lubricated regularly; super important since this design has the sliding pins mostly exposed.

It’s recommended every B service, but for places that salt the roads, I’d recommend it every A service instead, or at least every time you rotate tires.
