We recently took a trunk load of intakes to the dyno to test. To be the most scientific, we:
  • Ran all the tests on the same day
  • Ran with a higher boost calibration to increase the airflow and accentuate any differences
  • Ran three tests for each intake
  • Ran the tests with water temp at 180-183 F
  • Ran the tests with the IAT starting at about
    • 105-110 for the SRI intakes
    • 95-100 for the CAI intakes
The goal here is to provide useful and thorough tests to help everyone with their intake choices.

We'd like to do a big shout out for ProCivic, who provided their MT Civic and a number of intakes for testing. They provided a lot of resources to make this happen for the community.

Should have given me a call Doug! I would have thrown in my K&N as well for you guys to test, haha.

At work, can someone TLDR the results?
Roughly 2hp on a short ram, 4hp on CAI. Only above 5000 RPMs.

TLDR: You may as well keep your stock intake if you are running the stock turbo.

I don't think there is any surprising information here but it's great to have such a well performed test to reference.

Sorry. It would have been a useful addition to the test. The results speak fairly clearly for themselves though.
Yep, that being said, I'm glad I got the intake for free and didn't piss away 300 dollars for no reason. Well maybe not, it does sound nice at least.

Thanks for doing this test:thumbsup: Seems like a drop in filter would almost be best over a short ram intake:drive:

No surprise for me.
I keep my stock filter, I don't have to clean and spray oil on it. It's easier to just replace it when necessary.

How did you chose the temperature for the air intakes? a 10F difference should have about a 1% effect in HP, good for the 2hp difference.

Have you measured IAT for stock vs SRI vs CAI in a real world situation?

The IAT on the stock intake is very close to ambient on our car when the vehicle is moving. It climbs when the car is sitting still as everything under the hood bakes (expect to see this on the "CAI" type intakes too due to where the MAF is placed -- the MAF contains the first IAT sensor). Any intake that exposes the filter to drawing air from local engine bay air will be drawing very hot air off the turbo/manifold/downpipe. Honda designed their intake the way they did for a reason.

These can't be right. Injen said their intake is good for 29 horsepower

Lol I was waiting for someone to go there. It's what is known as "bullshit in advertising".
