Hey guys, looking to buy new winter tires. 50km just to get to work and I’m using country roads and highway.

any recommendations on my small coupé? I went one size down with my rims.. small mistake but oh well.

Toyo observe GSI5. I had them on a previous car and after 5 winters and about 40 000 km they were still at half thread. Excellent traction on all surfaces too. A bit pricier than the kumhos but well worth it. The 15s will do well enough on the civic and you'll actually get better fuel economy on the winter tires as there will be less weight that way. A bit peppier too. I went with 16s as I got a deal on the new observe GSI6+ and I'm glad I did but the GSI 5s are still very good and in a different class.

Whats more important to you, longevity or performance?
The softer the rubber compound in the winter tire, the better it's grip will be in wintery conditions. But softer rubber wears faster..

I can only speak from personal experience, I found the Bridgestone blizzak to be an excellent winter tire, but they wear really fast. I didn't like the Michelin x ice at all. My personal fav winter tire I have had overall was the Cooper weathermaster. While they didn't perform quite as good as the blizzak, they had much better treadwear.

I hated studded tires. Terrible traction on dry and wet pavement. Only useful on ice but my city blocks the roads with salt so that is not a big concern for me.

I had the blizzak too. I just feel they didn’t last really long. Just trying to find a good middle from both sides.
I’ll check the ones you suggested guys thank you

I bought Blizzak WS80 91H BL, 195/65R/15 with new steel rim at Costco in 2016.
They're still good, but I don't do much mileage during the winter.
If you install new steel wheels, change your lug nuts, Costco has good price also.
Je suis quand même satisfait,
I'll buy the same thing next time

On another subject, if you're interested to install a VARIABLE INTERMITTENT WIPER on your LX, check the guides in this forum.
I did the modification on mine and it works good.

I found the Toyos not to wear too much and be a happy medium between blizzaks and cheap winter tires. They aren't cheap to buy but they should last you at east 4 winters if not 5.

Last winter I bought a set of NT-SN2 Nitto tires. Though it's studless, I was impressed with its excellent ice traction. It also works well even in deep snow. It's very quiet for a winter tire.

Gen 1 Michelin X-Ice on my 2008, great tire.
Gen 2 Michelin X-Ice on my 2012, not as good as gen 1 but longer wearing
Blizzak WS-80's on my 2012 after the X-ice, better for the first half than anything, wore out quickly and weren't very good at all on the second half.
Gen 3 Michelin X-ice are going on my 2016 this winter.

I dont know if Dunlop is available in your country but after o relatively warm winter temperatures from -15C to +15C and around 8000km there is almost no wear on my 235/45/17 Dunlop winter sport 5 tires... and on 2019 tests it perform from rank 1 to rank 5 in european winter tire test, last 3 sets i drove were continentals wintercontact TS 830 - 860 and i can say dunlop is on par with these, and a little bit less pricey :) looks like a tire that will hold 3-4 winters with no problems :)
