Sadly your right. I can still remember changing out brushes in our alternators and staters on the garage floor ‘cause we were too broke to buy rebuilt ones.

Exactly what I’m talking about. Just because the call them “Maintenance Free” people think they can’t maintain them so they run out and buy new batteries.

Many years ago, I save one or two " no maintenance" batteries with distilled water.
If you can remove cells cover, you can add distilled water.

100% true. Sometimes they hide the screw on type under a sticker that say “Maintenance Free “

Nowadays batteries just "die" but seldom of thirst.

There is always a reason for an object to die, in the case of batteries it can be the lack of water.

Heat is the enemy of the battery, not cold. And heat means evaporation

And just because you are able to open up a battery, it doesn't mean you should, and it doesn't mean it will help anything

If it makes you feel better opening up your battery and filling it up, then go for it,

But that doesn't mean you have extended its life in any way,

You’re completely wrong.
I keep an eye on my voltage at rest. And maintain all my vehicles the same except for a couple of motorcycles that have sealed batteries.
But nothing I say will change your mind.
just google it. And post you’re own results.

Like most small electrical motors : with notice : " no maintenance required" .
A drop of oil and they are good for some more years
I save more fans than I need find in garbage bins
