It sounds like something is wrong OP, I'd have it checked out. As much as people might be hard on the stock system, it can still go pretty loud.

And I think with how much the type R rattles and all the road noise, a pitch perfect and clear audio system would just get lost in the din. And a super thuddy audio system would rattle a lot of the interior.

I have the 2019 Sport Touring and the "Premium" audio is a joke. I installed honda hack and viper4android and everything is pretty nice now. At this point the speaker limitations are showing through and need to get better tweeters and front door speakers. The sub actually hits decent with the Honda hack.

Hey man, can you elaborate on what the honda hack or viper changes made to the headunit that may have resulted in better sound?

I've upgraded some of my speakers and each time the improvement is minor. It still has that hollow, harsh edge to every sound. If theres a way to improve it via software I'll try it.

Dude it 100% fills in the hollow sounds. The highs are not as harsh and the lows are very full. The sub actually shakes the rear view too!

As far as specific, it lets you control a lot so it would be whatever you change your individual frequency levels to. Would recommend 10/10. Put it this way on some notes I have a bit of buzzing that sounds like plastic flapping around but the sound is so much better it's worth it. If you've replaced speakers V4A is going to blow stock config out of the water!

+1 for V4A

I initailly installed HondaHack so I could run Hondata, but after using V4A I was amazed at how much better the stereo sounds. I'm running factory setup, other than a JL audio center and Kicker sub with an amp. Running the sub off the front left/right channels and V4A and it sounds great.

Thanks. Bringing it in on my next day off, 8/20. I will update what the problem is.

No. None at all.
Are you sure? Tune to a talk or news (mono sound) station and toggle DTS Neural Surround from on to off, does the volume increases? And decreases the other way? With DTS Neural Surround turned on, my rear speakers have very very little sound when tuned to a talk or news station (mono sound). It almost sounds like a 80s transistor radio. Even with DTS turned on, there is slightly more sound but not quality sound coming out of the rear.

It does change it a little bit but not enough to make a difference at all. I am going in the 20th. I will update what the dealer says.

I'm thinking, beyond a technical issue, the best value for money, from my I've experiences in auto, home theater and stereo audiophile endeavors, would be to address the "the room/cabin noise floor":
  1. Vibration dampening - hit the largest flat spots on the insides of the outer door skins - front and rear, the hatch well and rear tire wells with your choice of 80 mil adhesive vibration dampener @ about 25% coverage, with tiles especially placed directly behind the speakers (example link)
  2. For speaker isolation/vibrations, add closed-cell foam speaker cups to all the mid-speakers (example link) and line (at least the rear) the sub-box with acoustic dampening foam (example link)
  3. For noise blocking - on the doors, add a one piece, cut to shape, piece of mass loaded vinyl (MLV)or closed-cell foam-backed (CCF+MLV) to the inner door skin (under the door card) - this can be attached with a few distributed squares of double-sided Velcro squares & allows for easy removal for later accessing door components (example link) On the hatch well and wheel wells, cut & stick to cover fully with CCF+MLV and tape the seams (example link) CCF+MLV seller
  4. Install & configure Viper4Android to customize the EQ
Bonus - you certainly could also do 1. & 3. for the flooring under the seats, foot wells - up as far as you could go up the firewall & sides, and the ceiling. For overkill - If you really want to go all out, you could do 3. under the dash. But the benefit greatest benefit/time/$ would come from the doors & trunk, then the floors & ceiling, & lastly the dash.

My intent is to do 1-3 for the doors & hatch area (trunk and rear wheel wells)

Disclaimer - I'm not a pro, just a nerdy enthusiast & I don't necessarily recommend any brand of products or seller, just the materials, coverage and layering strategies.

My hypothesis is that my intent will cost a couple hundred dollars, and shore up the major shortcomings of the environment and make the stock components sound their best (good enough).

My 2006 Civic Si stock 350 watt sound system sounded 100 times better than the crappy "450 watt" system in these civics. My solution was to install Hondahack and then install viper4android to manually adjust the EQ settings and now the system actually bumps pretty hard and sounds way better. Highly recommend installing viper4android on your headunit

I will look into the Hondahack. It seems like a good idea. I dont want to do anything yet because I feel the head unit should at least work.

I finally brought the car in to have the Audio Looked at. What a big waste of time. I went to DCH Honda of Oxnard California. We brought it in right before work and talked to the service writer. They took the car back without us showing the problem because we were early. The issue is that we have almost no audio in the back and no base at all. If I fade to the back and really crank it I get something but then it makes the front unbearably loud. If I play with the sub controls or the base control nothing changes at all.
The called me before lunch time and said its all good so we drove up. This is about 15 miles away. We got there and the service writer is all excited and saying how good it sounds. I got in and it sounds exactly the same. I had him get in the passenger side and showed him and he agreed that it could sound better. I told him I also have a 2020 Jeep with a premium audio system and it does what it is supposed to do and sounds way better (note that the guys on the Jeep forum hate the Jeep audio too).
I also noticed 2 big shoe scuff marks on the drivers side door sills that werent there and I really let him have it about that. I was kinda pissed. He said they would keep it and have his tech specialist look at it and call me.
Later in the afternoon the tech guy calls and says that it sounds like it should and he will have them run audio diagnostics and if it falls in spec it is what it is. I got a call later saying all is good and come get it. I picked it up from sales because I got it after service closed and exactly the same. It sounds like crap.
At least they took care of the scuffs.
Now I am gonna try another dealer near me and probably call Honda customer service.
I flamed them on every survey so I feel real good about that at least.
If anyone has a moment and a stock sound system I sure would appreciate it if you could move the base and sub controls and let me know if anything changes and also if the back sounds as loud as the front.
Thanks.

I'm definitely going to get into this and investigate my system, I remember listening all around my speakers and could hardly hear anything on the rear speakers in the trunk. I also played with the DTS Neural Surround and could only hear a slight difference, I think off was better if I recall. I also found the EQ on iPhone was off so that could make a difference but will start first with that V4A app with Honda Hack. I just got my wireless charger done and got to marry wireless CarPlay with the car and put out a video. This issue should be my next step, making sure my audio system on my 2020 is working properly. If I could hardly hear anything from the rear speaker something is not right.

Let me know what you find. Sounds like the same problem. Not good for what we should have stock.

Here you go man, worked on it all day today. I tried the basic settings on the head unit. Tried using EQ on my iphone. Troubleshoot the speakers and you can tell the rear ones are weaker but are working. Finally the answer is the free app Viper4Android. (thanks to the members here who mentioned it) I was totally shocked what this software did enhancing the sound of the head unit. Problem is (or not) you got to use Honda Hack so you can install apps. So my conclusion, replace amp and/or speakers for the expensive route or use the free software, and or both.
