I have 9000 miles on the Amsoil MTF.
Thanks for the reply. I started to notice a loss in shift quality after about 20k on the OE fluid.

I’m gonna be switching to the Amsoil Synchromesh fluid when I hit 20k miles in a couple of weeks.

Keep in mind that your original Honda MTF is of 7.265 cSt @ 100°C (30.70 cSt @ 40°C) , compared to Amsoil MTF's 9.7/48.3 cSt).

Castrol Syntrans B (UK) and Redline D4 are the closest to Honda MTF in terms of operating viscosity that are also GL-4 rated.

Low Viscosity Manual Transmission Lubricants- http://www.red90.ca/rovers/MTF.htm

7.5 cSt- https://www.redlineoil.com/d4-atf

9.7 cSt- https://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/g2080.pdf

But Redline is group 5 Ester based oil. Which, while being excellent at many things, is also well known for leaking past seals. I personally would use nothing but ester based oils in a race car that is torn down all the time anyway, but you won’t catch me putting it in my street cars that I don’t want to ever have to tear down. Nope, I’m sticking with group 4 PAO synthetics. That do not leak!

Ester based Group V synthetic oils are known to leak?
Yes, they are the ones that started the notion that synthetic oils leak. But the truth is only ester based synthetics leak. Redline has said they have learned to correct that trait, but idk, I’m not willing to be the guinea pig. Would you try it and let me know?....

On my RSX type S, I tried a few different kinds before I went with Amsoils Honda MTF equivalent. It was outstanding.

The same stuff I’m using. How often are you changing the Amsoil in your RSX?

Motul is a true PAO group 4 synthetic. And is excellent. Is the same stuff as Amsoil. You can’t go wrong with either one.

I had the RSX from 2009-2012, bought it with 108k on the odometer and sold it with 140-something. I changed it around late 2010/early 2011. The car was a little hard to downshift and had a 3rd gear pop out under heavy acceleration that is common of them. It cured those problems and made the shifts very, very smooth. This was also when it was -15 in upstate NY, where I was living at the time. The Honda MTF was done and the other two I used... both of which I can't recall anymore, but where kinds you could buy in brick and mortar stores, while they smoothed the shifts, they didn't cure the 3rd gear pop out completely and performed badly in the cold. Much too thick until the car warmed up and it didn't want to shift freely. The Amsoil was great all the time.

I ended up just going with the Honda fluid for the first change. Shift quality was getting pretty poor, Id like to have a good comparison to the new fluid so I think Ill put 15-20k on this new Honda MTF and then switch to the Amsoil before it wears out all the way.

After changing the oil, and putting about 500 miles on it, the shift feel is almost new again.

I will say, at 3 years and only about 25k miles, when I traded my 9th, it's shifting had gone from butter smooth to very notchy this year. Had I not traded out of it when I did, I had already planned on replacing the Honda MTF w/Amsoil.

I haven't been impressed w/Honda's MTF or their ATF the Odyssey uses (DW-1 I think... or something like that.) 3 years and less than 30k... and the Odyssey has a ~30k periodicity with the MM and it still has gotten extra drain/fills covered under warranty for tranny judder (I do the scheduled ones myself)... I don't haven't seen their fluids do well inside Honda's recommended service interval.

I'm more concerned about cold-weather drivability has anyone tried this !!
Ravenol J1C1002 SAE 75W-80 Manual Transmission Fluid - MTF-2 Full Synthetic API GL-4 (1 Liter) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FGXB15O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-vtDDbCAZ792D
I don't track.
I'm not fully convinced about Amsoil and it's cold-weather driveability.
