Those are spray painted aluminum bars for support. There's also an aluminum bar inside the entire oem lip which is somewhat hollow. The mesh does a surprising amount of work for rigidity lol. This is the only mod where halfway through I thought to myself, I think I may be better off leaving my car alone. Besides the chance that the car gods may smite my intercooler with a massive rock, I love the way it is now, spray painted bars and all

Did you drill into your bumper to relocate the plate?

no, it's attached to the opening on the mesh for the horn. I just bought the "cruiser acessories" license plate bracket on amazon and a pair of nuts bolts and washers from home depot. Washers are 1" diameter so they don't slip through the mesh and bolts were 1.5" because I didn't want the plate to touch the bumper and I originally had it sticking out about an inch

looks nice! but as you mentioned, there is that risk that a rock might fly in there. I remember a post sometimes back when a rock went through the mesh (i was not able to follow the thread). So if rocks can make short work of the mesh, imagine how hard it could hit your intercooler without them.

The exposed intercooler looks indecent, but I'll admit, somewhat attractive.

I think it's the black PRL lettering, that makes it acceptable.

I'm pretty confident my intercooler won't break. For small fin dents I'm sure I can straighten those out like once a year and I think I'd still get those with the mesh on anyways.

As far as looks go, I briefly considered getting the mishimoto black intercooler but unpainted is just classic and the PRL stencil looks awesome. Plus it's PRL.

Driving feel, I used to enjoy driving the most during cool nights but now I kind of feel that way all the time
