So the normal oem visors will not cover the chrome completely? You specifically have to get type r visors to fully cover the chrome?

So how functional/useful are they truly in the rain?

I recall my OEM 92-95 Civic window visors not being super effective. Obviously they looked good though. :-D

I am able to drive in the rain with the front windows cracked enough to let air in

Yep, they work great. You can have a decent crack in the windows. I love it for Ohio where it rains a lot, but I don't want to turn on my A/C. Just need some air! I love 'em.
