Keeping costs down and reliability are probably the main factors. Possibly trying to find a middle ground refining the driving experience. I'm pretty sure they thought it out before going this route. I'm willing to bet that 10th gen stock and 11th gen stock from light to light they are going to be pretty even
Sorry but I have to disagree with Honda's decision not to up the power. This is their "Sport Injected" model and sure, it's known for it's good handling. But there is competition out there and the competition has substantially higher power numbers (the WRX, GLI, GTI, Elantra N etc).

Having run the tune reliability thread for years now, I have an idea of what the 1.5T is safely capable of. Honda could have easily released an Si outputting say, 215/215 with the needed reliability and good mpg numbers. 200/192 is far too pedestrian IMO. It winds ups being a fun car in the twisties with less than true sport sedan-ish acceleration.

And yes a tune fixes that but Honda should have done it out of the box.

The cars that you mentioned are all substantially more expensive than the Si. The WRX starts at almost $38K, the lowest trim GTi starts at $31K. Even the Toyota 86 starts at $28K. Your comparing Apples to Oranges

And using your Toyota 86 example, the 2022 has 228hp with similar to Si torque.

We'll agree to disagree. I just wish Honda would have given the Si a bit more power.

That was for a WRX STi, but that said, you'll never come out paying $27K for WRX here in California. Once you add the options that an Si has, it's well over $35K. I stick by my last statement, Apples to Oranges

When are you replacing your current car with a 2022 Si? :D

Also, the GLI is apples to apples price wise.

LOL thanks for asking! Unfortunately I can't go back to 4 cylinders. It's V6, V8 or EV for me

stop being so upset. honda is just trying to keep the trend going of odd generation Si's being a little disappointing. thats all.
Yep, Honda is deficiently known for making changes than going back. But in this case I don't think they are going back. For sure this is not an engine that's going to get more power, at least in ICE form

I saw a review of the GLI and it sucks. I think I saw it on Regular Car Reviews, they mentioned it doesn't deliver power very well and it's boring. Also no sports suspension, no LSD etc etc etc

Why not, it works for 27won

That's a Branch Resonator on the 27won. Honda is probably doing something similar with the 11th gen, it's probably curved like that for noise reduction. The shorter gearing means more engine noise at hwy speeds

Maybe those reviewers were on LSD?

I'm 99.99999999999999% sure the GLI has a limited slip diff and sport suspension.
