Just for some reference
These are pics of the wheels I just installed, this past weekend.
They are Enkei T6S, 18x8.5 +35 offset, with 235/40R18 tires.
If you want more poke, go with a wider wheel or more offset (smaller number = more offset to the outside of the car).
I'm not lowered.

Given what I've heard about roads in the New England area (really bad roads and huge pot holes), I'd avoid running a 235/40R18 on a 9.5" wide wheel, because I don't think it offers enough rim protection.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the info and the pictures. I was between 8.5 and 9.5 but I think you are right. 8.5 would be safer. Thanks again.

Hey guys, I’m looking to get 18 x 9.5 wheels with 245 / 40 / 18. Does anyone with this setup experience rubbing? I’ve seen examples of this fitment on fitment industries and all have stated no rubbing so just want to make sure. I’m on stock suspension and will not be lowering.

That wheel with +35 offset will rub on dips

How do you think I’ll be with 18x8.5 +35 and 245/40/18 on stock hatch suspension? May eventually get the pro-kit. Nothing lower.
I don't know from experience like I do on the wider wheel, but I'm going to guess it'll probably still rub with less stretch

235/40 would fit that wheel better

I think I may roll the dice still, I really don’t want any stretch at all, and want the sidewall rim protector to actually function as intended on this wheel.

I’ve gotten mixed answers to this question... if it does rub, would a lowering kit actually help me? Where do you suspect it will rub and what would my options to alleviate be?

The amount of camber gained by lowering varies

I have front fender well rub. I'm putting on Whiteline front ball joints to allow for more negative camber

Some people with rear camber issues have rear camber arms to allow for rear camber to be dialed in

In this the case, go with square (rim protection) setup 18x8 (offset >+38 onwards) and run with 235/40.

+37 will still rub abit on the tab edge on hard dip or go over high speed stripe/hump.

I was able to get a great deal on the wheel I most wanted. VMR 701 18x8.5”+35, so changing wheels isn’t an option. Thanks for the help though! I will report back with my findings... I’m willing to take a few extra steps to make this wheel and tire combo work if I have to at this point. Can’t be that hard to roll a fender right? Lol. The car is my daily and gets 80 highway miles a day, and roads can suck pretty bad here in NY depending on the year. I think having the extra rubber will be worth the effort.

So I installed these today. Avid1 AV06 18x9.5 +38 245 40 18. On Eibach Pro Kit. I have SPC rear camber arms so I put negative camber in the rear. I did the front strut mod. There's no rubbing from what I can tell. However I get some creaking noise up front when I turn to the right at almost stopped or slow turning. Mainly when I turn right. Could the springs be rubbing? Gotta put it back up in there air tomorrow to get a better look. Figured I'd ask and see if anyone else had any issues like this.
