I had a rear shock replaced with an aftermarket one. I am getting a rattle noise from that corner. The dealer said that it's because of the way the aftermarket shock seats against the mount and that I would need an oem shock. Does that make sense that only oem shocks work? Anybody have experience with aftermarket shocks on these?

I've never heard that you can use only OEM shocks, especially on Hondas.

Was it a name brand?

When you replaced them, did you compare the new one with the original?

Monroe oespectrum. A mechanic did the repair.

I would be interested in what the mechanic that installed them has to say.
It was a smooth installation. The service advisor at Honda I was talking to over the phone said it's not the shops fault and that this is common with aftermarket shocks.

I wonder if the mounts have a wear pattern from the original struts that doesn't match the oem strut, and if a new mount would fix it. Depends if you want to gamble, or just replace it with the oem shock. :)
